Chapter Seven: In the Event Of

Rhett's Point of View

It was the next day and we were swamped at Avenue Grill and the girl Charlie wasn't here for her shift yet, I still couldn't help but think about that kiss that I'd shared with Thomas, I was honestly a little confused by the whole situation, he said he'd wanted to do that since we were kids, which was shocking to me, I mean there had always been that lingering crush there, and Jax teased us all the time about when we were gonna 'bang and get it over with' but I didn't really think anything of it, I thought it was just banter, and the way he looked at me afterwards, he looked like I slapped him in the face, then said 'It doesn't have to be a big thing. It's just a kiss." Like what the fuck? Of course I'm gonna think it's a big thing, because it is.

Thomas Teller.

My best friend.

Kissed me.

That's a big thing!

I stepped around the counter balancing two plates on the tray I was holding and I stepped around Mrs. Taferties table then placed her plate down. "Your burger will be right out Mrs. Reynolds." I said then made my way towards the booth setting a plate down in front of an old man who had been waiting for fifteen minutes.

I turned around letting out a breath then made my way back towards the counter, I heard the bell above the door ring, I turned my head, Charlie was rushing inside. "Sorry, sorry, I know I'm like twenty minutes late." She rushed around the counter tossing her bag underneath the bar, then she grabbed an apron tying it around her waist.

"Mrs. O' Rylee needed some help with her groceries." I cocked my eyebrow, her eyes were looking everywhere but at me, she looked frantic, worried even. I wondered if the reason she looked that way had anything to do with why Mrs. O' Rylee asked Jax to look out for her.

"It's okay, it's no worries. I managed to get your tables orders in. It's real nice that you help Mrs. O' Rylee out she's a sweet woman." I told Charlie.

Charlie nodded her head, I got the feeling that she didn't want to give too much about herself away, I stepped around the counter next to her. "Yeah she's been really great for the past five months that I've lived here, looking out for me and everything." Charlie told me, I smiled a little. It didn't surprise me that Mrs. O' Rylee had taken Charlie under her wing, it was good, it was nice for her to have someone that cared.

"Guess Mrs. O' Rylee gave you the details on my lovely and stupid best friends right?" Mrs. O 'Rylee tried to warn women away from them, for their sake not for anyone else's, she saw how Jax, and sometimes even Thomas treated women which wasn't nice sometimes I'll admit but he was the sweetest of the two.

Charlie looked at me cocking her eyebrow slightly. "Mostly just about Jax and how she chased him out of her house when she caught him banging a girl on her porch swing, then told me about how he, his brother and some guy named Opie stole her car and she chased them down the street with a shotgun." Charlie shrugged.

I couldn't help but laugh because all of that was true. "Jesus, yeah they're not the brightest messing with Mrs. O' Rylee, but she loves them in her own twisted way." I told her and Charlie nodded her head. "I know, I can tell." She looked around then her eyes landed on me.

"I take it you don't have many girlfriends around here do you?" Charlie asked me.

God was it that obvious?

"Um, no." I answered shaking my head. "It's kind of hard to have good girlfriends when every girl in town just wants to sleep with my two male best friends." I stated leaning my side against the counter. It was difficult trying to make friends around here anyways, with who my father was, even if he and I didn't exactly see eye to eye on a lot of things.
