Chapter Six: Timing Is Everything

Rhett's Point of View

Gram had just went to bed and I was cleaning up the kitchen from dinner, today had been a long day, and the only thing that I could think about was the kiss Thomas and I had shared earlier today, it was just a kiss, a stupid kiss kind of like when we were younger and we'd play spin the bottle and everyone around the circle would kiss one of the others. but this time was different, this time he was different.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when there was a knock outside the backdoor, I turned my head leaning back to see who it was, It was Thomas but he wasn't alone, Jax was along with him. I wasn't mad that he brought him along but I would have liked it better if Jax hadn't come, so Thomas and I could talk.

I waved the two of them in then went back to washing up the dishes.

"Jax decided to tag along." Thomas announced as they walked inside.

"That's fine." I grabbed the towel and wiped my hands then turned to face the two men I'd known my whole life.

"How's she doing?" Jax asked glancing around then his eyes landed on me, I let out a sigh I wish I could say my Grams was on the up and up, that she'd be okay. but I knew deep down that that was wrong. "Resting." I answered. "Finally got her to go back to bed after watching two episodes on the ID channel." I let out a breath then arched my eyebrow at Jax.

"You've been over at Mrs. O'Rylee's haven't you?" I questioned with a smirk, Jax chuckled and shook his head. "Checking her car over for her again, not a big deal." he shrugged his shoulders. Thomas looked at Jax scoffing.

"You're so full of shit it's seeping out." he said as he walked across the kitchen and leaned against the counter next to me. I looked at Thomas wanting more details. "That girl you work with, the one i bumped into today." of course it had to do with a girl I looked towards Jax. "She lives next door to Mrs. O'Rylee and Jax is sweet on her." Thomas said smirking and he crossed his arms over his chest.

I let out a slight giggle. "You sure he's sweet on her or does he just want in the poor girls pants?" I questioned arching my eyebrow I knew Jackson Teller and he was never 'sweet on' any girl except for in high school and that girl was Tara Knowles and that was the biggest mistake he ever made, ever since she broke his heart he's slept around despite the fact of getting married to Wendy Case, but that was a fluke.

Jax rolled his eyes at the two of us. "Would you two leave my private life alone." he said shaking his head and took a seat down at the table.

"Jax, don't go playing games with her, she's new around here and I'd actually like to be friends with her, I don't need you and your little friend fucking her up." I said pointing my index finger at him then turned around to finish up cleaning.

I could hear Jax scoff. "Who said it's little?" he questioned and I let out a laugh then bowed my head shaking it, my best friends are lunatics.

After I finished up cleaning the counter off I grabbed three beers out of the fridge then set them on the table and I took a seat across from Jax. "But seriously, what's your infatuation with her?" I questioned him and Jax didn't say anything. "She turned him down." Thomas answered as he took a swig of his beer, my eyes grew wide and i looked at Jax, that was definitely a first for him, he never got turned down every girl in Charming threw themselves at him, besides me that would be too weird I knew way too much about him even Thomas, but that didn't stop me from kissing him. difference in circumstance. The little voice inside my head was telling me.

"I'll say it again Jax don't go messing where you're not ready to mess." I warned simply then took a sip of my own beer shaking my head slightly at the blonde who was sitting across from me.

"I'm not doing a damn thing." Jax answered then he shifted in the chair. "Mrs. O Rylee cares for her though, that much I know. just asked me to look out for her that's all." He shrugged his shoulders and took a swig of his own beer.

I arched my eyebrow when he said that Mrs. O'Rylee asked Jax of all people to look after this new girl? well that was definitely a first seeming as Jax is the last person I'd ask, but then again his infatuation would put him in a position to keep her safe, plus Jax can separate sex and friendship, at least I'd hope to god he could.
