Chapter Nine: Choices
Charlie's Point of view
After Rhett had left the diner I had to call Mabel and let her know that Rhett had to go to St. Thomas because of her grandmother and she called one of the other girls in, I think her name was Sheila and she wasn't too happy that she had to come in and work on her day off she was actually bitching the whole time.
I was honestly going to be glad when my shift ended because I didn't want to be around the constant bitching and it wasn't even like she had to work a full shift it was only 4 hours because Rhett was getting off at 5 and I was getting off at 5:45 so the dinner rush girls were coming in.
I was wiping down the counter after a mother and her three kids came in and ate ice cream sundae's and got ice cream everywhere on the counter.
I heard the roar and rumble of a single motorcycle pulling into the lot, I was somewhat hoping that it wasn't Jax, but a part of me was hoping it was, I turned my head and yep, I was correct, it was Jax, he had climbed off his bike and stepped onto the sidewalk there was a cigarette in between his lips and he took one last drag of it before tossing it on the sidewalk and heading towards the diner.
When the door opened the bell rang. "Wow, twice in one day, this a new record for you?" I asked jokingly.
Jax smiled at me heading for the counter and he sat down. "Well, can't miss any chance to see the gorgeous waitress." He smiled sweetly at me. I gave him a look. "What are you really doing here Jax? Everything okay with Rhett and her grandmother?" I asked biting down on my lip.
Jax let out a breath nodding his head. "Would like to say yeah, but it's really not, Johanna's not doing so good." He told me honestly. "Her dementia has progressed rapidly." Oh god that wasn't good. "Doctor suggested putting her in a nursing home so she can get 24 hour care."
Well that was true, individuals who suffer from dementia need round the clock care, from people who know how to care for individuals who suffer from it. I let out a breath. "That's awful, but she's not wrong, some families end up putting their loved ones in nursing homes so they can get the care that they deserve that they can't give them." I told Jax. He cocked his eyebrow at me.
"Anyways, what was the other reason you're here?" I asked changing the subject.
I didn't want to talk about my personal life.
"Right." Jax chuckled leaning against the counter. "Rhett wanted me to come by and tell you that she wasn't going to be able to make it tonight, wants to stay at the hospital with her grams." I nodded my head understanding of course she would.
"Oh, okay yeah that's completely understandable, even If she would've showed up at my house I would have told her to get back to the hospital anyways." I stated then let out a breath.
"which brings me to a question." Jax started. I looked at him tilting my head to the side leaning forward, Mrs. O' Rylee's words running through my head about Jax, what he was like, how he wasn't so bad. "Since you're not going to be doing anything, how would you like to come to a party tonight?" He asked me.
I didn't know about that going to a party with Jackson Teller? "I don't know about that." I said shaking my head and I stepped around the counter to go clear off a table. "Come on, you got anything better to do tonight?"" he joked. I laughed a little glancing at him. I let out a breath shaking my head. "Why do you want me to go to a party?" I questioned curiously.
"Because, I'd like to get to know the new girl that's been here for 5 months? That so bad? And I promise I'll be on my best behavior darlin." He flashed me that grin and I stared at him shaking my head slightly he was definitely persistent. "Um." I didn't know how exactly to answer that question. He was giving me that damn grin again. Before I could fully comprehend what was coming out of my mouth I said.
