i had finished fixing fez's tie for the play and handed him the letter he had painstakingly worked on the first few hours of the morning with me.

"yes or no?" i had asked fae who had just walked in.

she tilted her head a little and shook her head, "looks better without it."

"well i just lost five minutes of my life to that."

fez chuckled and gave me a side hug, "thanks lil' ma, i 'preciate you."

"m-hm love you too, fez." fae and i exited to the other room where ash and custer lay watching the game playing on the tv.

fae grabbed my arm, letting her latch in to me. i knew her and custer weren't the best together, so she had trouble forming emotional bonds. when i saved her ass back at laurie's she had accidentally attached herself to me.

i had given her a small peck on the top of her head, giving her the tell that everything is going to be okay.

we had traveled to the kitchen so fae could get some water, so i had watched the game while keeping an eye out for anything bad.

tap. tap tap.

my eyes moved to my little brother, leaning toward the table tapping his fingers, seemingly impatient about his team not winning.

i knew what it meant though.

fez came out, buttoning his suit jacket while watching the game.

i move to fae, "go to gran's room and stay there. if you hear any loud noise before ash comes to get you, just hop through the window, okay?"

she had looked at me incredulously, wondering how i knew. she should've known by now that every secret doesn't pass by me.

she had listened and went to gran's room as i grabbed my switchblade from the knife drawer (a genius hiding place if you ask me).

i walk next to fez and whispered to him, "custer ratted us out."

fez looked at me just like fae did, only for a second, "well, what are you plannin' on doin' lil' ma?"

"let me kill him fez. leave with ash and fae, drop them at the station, ash'll know what to do. go to the play. tell that girl how you feel. don't worry about me."

"when you say that type of shit of course imma worry."

"just go through the back way and trust me on this. please."

fez ran his hand over his face and sighed. "this is a fuckin' suicide, man."

"and you two'll live another day. that's all i got to worry about."

fez wrapped me in the biggest hug is received from him, "stay safe lil' ma. i love you."

"i love you too fez."

"hey ash," he looked up from the game, "it's your turn to give gran her pills. give her two ibuprofen this time."

tap tap. tap.

he hid his own switchblade back in his hoodie, and went in the direction of gran's room. fez silently followed. the flowers stayed on the counter to keep him quiet.

i sat down next to custer and turned the volume up on the game for white noise, "you want anything to drink?"

"you got any beer?" custer's leg was bouncing up and down, his tell obvious. that fucker.

"yea, i got it."

i timed it right, as when i opened the fridge, the large window opened as i heard fez, ash, and fae jump into the bushes, silent as foxes. i flicked my switchblade open, heartbeat beating so fast it was humming.

i grabbed a beer and opened it for him and placed it on the table next to the couch.

"thanks ma."

my eye twitched, "don't you call me ma, you fucker."

before he could turn, my switchblade dug deep into his neck, hand around his mouth.

it was slow, like the blood coming from his mouth. in that time i could here the three leave in his car, racing for time, along with the sound of gran's heart monitor.

i could no longer feel custer struggling anymore, so i took my blood covered hand away from his mouth. using my elbow to turn on the faucet, i washed the blade and my hand off, and hid it back in the drawer.

walking toward the backway, i could hear the swat trucks coming along the highway. i gave gran a kiss on her temple, like she did when i was young, "i'll be back soon gran."

i hopped out the window, closing and locking it from the outside, and climbed down the railing.

hopping on my bike, my heartbeat slowed to a gentle patter, soon to be racing again as i took the backroads to hide.

i felt a gentle tear stream down my face. i let it drop down to my chin.

i had nothing to lose now.
