River is currently in central park, where Sabrina told her to meet her. Brown eyes sweep over the park until they land on a familiar figure walking toward her. Just the way she walks makes River's heartbeat faster. She felt like a little schoolgirl.
'Fuck, I hope I don't look a hot mess.' River thinks, quickly running a hand through her hair just as the blonde commences. River can hear her heart beating against her ribcage, and it's so fast that it almost hurts. Sabrina comes and stops in front of her. River gives her a wide smile in greeting. Sabrina gave her one in return.
"Hey pretty," River greets her with a hug. Her tone is delicate as she takes in the warmth the blonde provides.
"Hi," the blonde replies shyly.
They break away from the hug and River awkwardly stands there as Sabrina continues to look at her. Sabrina opens her mouth, only to close it before sighing in the end. River lifts an eyebrow at her. Sabrina only shakes her head before walking in the opposite direction from where she formerly came. Although she is confused, River does nothing but follow her lead.
The walk was silent. Only the sound of crisp leaves dancing along with the concrete and frantic footsteps around them made conversation. River has no clue as to where they are heading. She briefly assumed that they would be spending time in the park since that was where they met up. Now she isn't so sure.
Quickening to fall in step with the blonde, she asks, "Uh, Cariño? Not that I don't enjoy hanging out with you or anything like that, but where the hell are we going?" She rubs her hands together to create friction before putting them in her coat pockets.
Sabrina chuckles. "Don't worry. We're almost there. Just a couple more blocks."
"Okay, but I'm kinda cold." To further her point, River shudders while burying deeper into her coat in search of warmth. "See? Cold."
Amused, Sabrina only shakes her head at her. Bringing her arm around River's waist, she pulls River to her side. "You're so damn dramatic."
Whiplash could've been River's potential friend with how she whirled her head around at the statement. "Excuse me?! I'm not dramatic, thank you very much!" She pulls out of Sabrina's hold and strides away with her head high. She left the cackling blonde behind, trying to catch up. Still laughing, Sabrina calls out for her, "You don't know where you're going, dummy!"
River groans loudly, pausing where she was to allow the blonde to catch up with crossed arms. "Maybe if you told me, I would know," she mumbles once Sabrina is in hearing range.
"Yeah, yeah." The blonde rolls her eyes, perking up at the sign attached to the building. She grins. Taking her arm, Sabrina tugs her inside. "Here we are!" She says excitedly. A once familiar aroma warmly greets River's nose. "Café Lalo," River slowly read from the chalkboard, holding many tasty delights for many to enjoy. "How did you–? I haven't been here since god knows when," River says in awe as she takes in the place she frequently visited as a kid.
Sabrina grins. "I've done some research." Not wanting to be in the way of the workers or customers, the blonde leads them to an empty table towards the back of the café.
"I- I did not wanna cry today, Cariño." Leaning over her side of the table, Sabrina wipes away a tear that slipped away. "Thanks."
The sparkle in the blonde's eyes tells River everything Sabrina doesn't say verbally. 'I'd give you the world if you asked me to.'
"What was your favorite when you used to come here?" Sabrina asks.
Although the question was simple and required a short answer, River couldn't help but go into detail about her favorite. "Y'know how I hate the texture of coconut shavings, right?"
Sabrina nods.
"The only exception is the coconut custard pie. But, it has to be from here." As River shared her memory from this place, Sabrina couldn't help but stare as she spoke.
'God, she's so beautiful.' Sabrina thinks.
"My mom used to love getting it whenever we drove by after school and stuff. Each time she'd offer me a bite of it even though she knew I wouldn't want–"
Without thought, the blonde blurts, "–go out with me."
The statement caught River entirely off guard. "Excuse me?" Shock took over her face briefly before trying her best to hide it, though it didn't work too well. River could barely hide her reactions to things no matter how hard she tried. You'd think it would come relatively easy to her since she's an actor.
"Let me take you out," she rephrases. The blonde wouldn't need any blush applied to her face with how pink her cheeks were flushed.
"We're out right now, though." Confusion is evident in her voice.
"No, I mean on a date," Sabrina clarifies. "Officially."
"Oh... OH! You mean like– Yeah, okay." River's head was spinning. "Okay," she repeats, breathing in deeply.
"Is... Is that a yes?" Sabrina wrings her hands together before rubbing them against her pant legs. 'Wow, is it getting hot in here?' She wonders. God, she felt sweaty.
River merely nods. Things were finally moving forward with them. They sat around with a blinding smile on both of their faces.
Five minutes later, an older woman with black hair walks over to the two. "Hello, ladies. My name is Piper, and I'll be your server for this lovely morning. May I get you guys started with something to drink?"
River's eyes widen in disbelief once she takes in the woman's face. "Aunt Pip?!"
"Rio!? Sweetheart, is that you?"
