Chapter 9

Stiles’ POV

It is now the beginning of April and Everly is already six weeks old.  I can’t focus worth a shit sitting in class today.  All I can think about is getting home to Malia and Everly.  Everly is being released from the hospital today, finally able to come home.  She progressed amazingly and the doctors decided she was ready.  She no longer has any signs of sleep apnea and is a perfectly healthy baby, albeit a tiny baby.  She has gained 4 pounds 13 ounces and is now 7 pounds 14 ounces and 17 inches.  They said that it isn’t unusual for newbies to be smaller than average for the first year.  Some catch up and others are just going to me naturally smaller.  I never thought I would be so happy that my daughter was a werecoyote.  If she wasn’t there is a much higher chance that she wouldn’t have made it.  I still can’t fathom that I am a father at 17.  I always knew I wanted kids when I got older but not now.  I understand why now too.  It is hard work having a newborn, let alone when you are still going to school.  Although this was all unexpected, now that I have her I couldn’t see my life without her in it.  I am happy that Everly is finally coming home but I am also completely terrified.  When we were at the hospital we had help all around us.  I don’t know what I will do if something goes wrong.  They taught us CPR for infants in case of an emergency before we left.  It is nice knowing that I have the knowledge, but It still doesn’t bring me much comfort.  We both have been sleeping in our own bed for a few weeks now.  The first night was the hardest.

It was nine o’clock in the evening and Malia and I had just returned from the hospital.  I had gone to school in the morning while Malia stayed with Everly and did her own online work.  She had packed everything to go home while I was at school.  I went straight to the hospital the minute the bell ring indicating the school day was over.  I stayed their at the hospital with them having missed them both terribly.  It was nice to be away for a while and be outside of the hospital, but it was still hard.  Malia made sure to pump enough breast milk to last the night and we both head home after saying goodbye to everyone.  I am so grateful for everyone that has helped with the baby and Malia.  One nurse in praticular, Kaitlyn, was there through it all.  She is an older women, probably in her fifties.  Kaitlyn is a neonatal nurse and was assigned to Everly.  She was always there for us so it was hard leaving.  The first night away from everly was extremely hard on both of us.  We knew she was in very capable hands but we still didn’t sleep too well.

Since the first night we had finally started to sleep better and finally caught up on our sleep over the past four weeks.  That is going to change very quickly tonight when Everly is home.  We decided to keep her in the nursery instead of our room.  Her nursery is packed with all sorts of stuff that we received from the baby shower.  The girls had all planned a baby shower for Malia that was supposed to be a few days after Malia went into labor.  They decided to throw it when Malia got home from the hospital.

Malia’s POV

It has been two weeks since leaving the hospital.  I have been visiting Everly everyday, staying as long as I could.  I can’t wait to finally bring her home with us.  The girls decided to throw me my baby shower before Everly came home.  They planned it for today, and it is going to be just us girls.  The guest list consists of; Lydia, Allison, Braeden, Melissa, Stile’s Aunt Carrie, Kira, and me of course.

Aunt Carrie decided to throw it at her house.  She has been incredible in all this.  The first time I met her was on Christmas Eve.  She is so welcoming and knows a lot about babies considering she has three all under the age of six.  Ever since the surprise delivery of Everly she has been by my side.  Her last child, Conner, was born prematurely also.  He is now a healthy one year old and you would never know he was a premie.

Allison and Lydia went over early to help set up and I was supposed to head over in about thirty minutes.  Stiles was driving me over after we left the hospital and then hanging out with his uncle and dad.  His uncle was stuck with all of the kids and was being kicked out of the house.

It was time to leave so I put Everly down having just breast fed her.  Stiles dropped me off and then left with his uncle and the kids to the park or something.  I was greeted with a hug by Carrie as she led me into the house.  The room was filled with pink decorations.  There was a giant cake that said welcome to the world Everly.  They led me to a chair also decorated. “So we are going to open presents first than play a few games.” Allison said as she grabbed two presents off the table and put them with the rest.  There was a gigantic pile of presents sitting next to me.  I sat in aww while looking at all the people sitting around me eager to have me open the presents.  I can’t believe I went from being a lonely coyote full of guilt to this.  I was surrounded by people that I love and admire.  I picked up a present that was right in front of me. “That one is from me” Kira said.  It was some cute clothing and a gift card to carter’s.  “Thank you!” I said as I went to grab another.  I went through present after present.  I had got a ton of clothing, toys, diapers, and bottles from everyone.   I was down to two presents.  “Here, I made this for Everly, everyone needs a baby blanket” Melissa said as I began opening her gift.  It was a beautifully pink blanket that had Everly sewn into it.  “Wow, it’s amazing thank you so much” I said as I got up to hug Melissa.  Melissa has become like a mom to me.  She treated Everly like her granddaughter and she couldn’t be more grateful for her.  The final gift was a big box that was apparently from everyone.  I tore off the wrapping paper to find an infant car seat.  I smiled at the fact that I was going to be able to use this soon to take her home.  After I thanked everyone we played some games and than ate the cake.  It was a lot of fun and a much needed break from everything.

Stiles POV

The bell interrupted my thoughts and I thanked god that it was finally over.  I quickly took off towards my jeep and rushed off to the hospital.  I am way to familiar to this place I thought as I easily navigated through the halls to the nursery.  Malia was patiently waiting for me holding Everly closely talking to Kaitlyn.

“Hello Stiles I was just saying goodbye to Malia.” Caitlyn told me smiling

“Thank you for all your help, we will miss seeing you” I replied giving her a hug.  She walked off as I took Everly from Malia.  Malia grabbed the car seat and had me strap Everly in.  I made sure it was snug and put the blanket that Melissa made over her.

“I can’t believe this is happening, we can finally take her home” Malia said next to me. I smiled at her as we walked to the front desk to sign the release forms.  A nurse than walked outside to my jeep with us to make sure we installed the car seat correct before we left.  After Everly was secure in the back seat we said goodbye and went home.

It was later that evening and we had just finished dinner.  Everly had gotten a lot of attention.  Friends and family were over to greet Everly.  Malia and I were exhausted from the events of the day and were ready for bed.  Everly would sleep for a good 4 to 6 hours at a time when at the hospital and we were hoping for the same here.  I sat on the rocking chair the the nursery while Malia got Everly ready for bed.  She came over to sit between my legs, Everly in her arms getting impatient wanting to be fed.  “I can’t believe she is here with us” Malia said as she began breast feeding Everly.  I couldn’t help but smile at the sight.  “I know, I love you so much Mal.” I said lovingly as I watched my daughter.  Malia turned her head so she was looking at me.  “I love you too” she said kissing me full of love.  We broke apart right as Everly finished.  I took over burping duty while Malia got up and made sure the baby monitor was on.  After Everly was burped I laid her down in her crib and we both left the room, baby monitor in hand, and went to sleep.

I was woken suddenly by Everly wailing.  Malia began to get up but I told her I would get her.  I walked to the nursery when the crying all of a sudden stopped.  I opened the door to find the window opened and no sight of Everly anywhere.
