"Karlie, would you just listen to mom?" Kingston turned around in the front seat and glared at me. He'd been annoying since we left for our long journey to school. Mom was dropping us off for the semester, first him at the frat houses, then me at my stupid freshmen housing where I had community showers and bathrooms. FYI, my excitement was real...real low on the excitement meter.
I'd been pissed about being dropped off by myself at the dorms and I had asked Kingston to show me around, but of course, he was too busy with his "brothers" to help his own sister out.
"Seriously, shut up Kingston," I rolled my eyes and reached to shove him in the seat but mom brake checked us both, choking on our seat belts as we were projected forward as she stopped the car.
"Jesus Christ Mom!" Kingston shouted and I knew Mom was going to yell at the both of us.
She turned around and caught my eyes with her's full of anger. Shit, I was going to get yelled at first.
"You're being ungrateful and your brother has to help his brothers move in, too. You need to be more respectful to him. He's not saying he won't show you around, he's saying he can't today, Karlie. Now if I hear one more off hand comment, you're going to go to school with your cousin Melanie at home. Do you want that? Or do you want to go out of state and have a real college experience? Hmm...that's what I thought."
When she was facing forward again, I rolled my eyes and flicked Kingston's ear with a smirk on my face.
"Karlie knock it off!" Mom reached in the back and slapped my leg while Kingston started in again with me.
For the last time, Mom started the car again onto the highway and I put my head phones in to drown out the awful music my mother listened to on the radio.
There was a slammed door from the car and I opened my eyes to see Kingston running to his frat house with loads of fraternity guys frolicking around, some holding dressers and tv's and some tossing footballs and frisbee's. Mom was walking around, too, pulling Kingston's two massive suitcases out from the back of the car. He ran up to a bunch of his friends and hugged them while smiling and acting...social. My brother had never been social. All he'd ever done is played football and video games.
I got out of the car as mom toted them to Kingston and introduced herself to his friends while I watched from afar.
"Karlie!" Mom called and I immediately turned red in the cheeks. Ugh, Mom!
With their eyes now on me, I painfully trekked over to meet them and gave them each a handshake when they said their names.
"Hi I'm Jerry," a tall blonde with a bad acne problem shook my hand pretty weakly.
"Thomas." Cute, but not really my type. His handshake was sweaty.
"Kenny," now he was cute. He had short brown hair that was styled with good taste and a beautiful straight, white smile. "I'm not a brother, I'm just hanging out waiting for my brother, err, sibling to help me move to the freshmen dorms."
"Oh Karlie's a freshmen too!"
MOM! SERIOUSLY!
"Oh cool," he smiled down at me and I returned one weakly not even having the chance to talk in my own conversation with the boy.
"Alright mom, you and Karlie can go to the dorms now," Kingston, not very subtly, was trying to get rid of us. Mom said goodbye and gave him a sloppy kiss on his cheek then walked back to the car.
"See you never Karlie," Kingston chuckled behind me as I gave him a fake smile and a flash of my middle finger.
"Yo Kingston! C'mon I've been waiting all day!" an accent spoke from the front porch and Kingston paled instantly. I already liked the guy, he could make my brother shit his pants with one sentence.
