Harry's POV

I had one last final to take in my undergraduate studies and that was the sociology exam. I walked inside the lecture hall about twenty minutes earlier than the scheduled time and I saw Karlie sitting in her usual spot. Our eyes met for a hot second and then we both gave each other a shy smile. I hadn't spoken to her since spring break in Miami.

She took someone else to her formal a few weeks ago and I knew the guy Natalie had set her up with. Before the day came, I spoke to him about how he would act around her and how he would treat her. He seemed to oblige with my rules in all of the stories I overheard from the night and how he barely even put his hands around her waist. She didn't seem all too pleased with going with him as I stalked pictures on Facebook, which made me a little more comfortable with the thought of her going with him.

There were others in the room talking and studying for the exam, but I couldn't get my feet to move forward and up the carpeted steps. The guy Karlie took to her formal from another fraternity passed me and gave me a pat on my arm.

"Hey," he nodded his head at me as he stole my attention from the girl sitting a few rows up. I smiled back at him and followed his stride up the steps. Penelope was sitting with the guy and I refused to go any further on the steps. Penelope was the last person I wanted to sit next to.

Finally, I found a seat across the middle aisle from where Karlie was sitting. "Hey, curly!" Karlie threw her pencil at my arm. I turned my head and smiled at her as she chuckled. The only reason why I chose not to sit next to her was because I knew being so close would distract me from the exam.

I picked up her pencil and decided I probably should talk to her. I had been putting it off for a long time and I'm sure she had noticed. I sat in the immediate seat next to her and handed her pencil back.

"I think you misplaced this," I smirked and stared forward afraid to make any eye contact. My palms were sweating and my stomach was swirling with the nerves of talking to her again after everything we had done and all the drama I had put her through. I couldn't remember the last time I had felt like this with anyone.

"Thanks. I've been looking for it," I could hear her smile in her soft words and then her hand touched mine as she accepted her pencil from my hand. I acted as if I hadn't felt the attraction at her touch but I also didn't realize I had leaned into her until our shoulders met.

I scratched my head unable to come up with anything to talk about and she chuckled at my discomfort.

"What?" I furrowed my brows down at her and chewed the spearmint gum in my mouth.

Her eyes lit up and she shrugged her shoulders before looking back down at the papers on her desk. I saw Kenny enter the room and I felt my chances of speaking to Karlie ever again grow slim.

"Hey, ugh," I scratched the back of my head again and fixed my hair. Her eyes looked back up to meet mine and I felt the flush of red creep across my face. "Do you want to meet me at my car and go grab lunch after this?"

A blush creeped across her face then and I felt my heart being squeezed by her silence. With each step Kenny took, I felt my body tensing more and more in anticipation of her answer. Less importantly though, I didn't want him to see me struggle with asking a girl out.

She nodded her head and I felt an impossibly heavy weight lift from my shoulders. I stood and smiled as I backed away from her to sit in another row. Kenny walked by me then and gave me a confused glance.
