It was a Sunday. A rainy Sunday that seemed to convert the cold into a bitter skin shaking cold, turning sidewalks into ice rinks, and persuading couples to snuggle in the library. However, the library was strangely empty for our finals approaching and I wondered if everyone just didn't study on their Sunday afternoons, or maybe I was one of the few that ever did in general.
I went to my usual fourth floor, the quiet floor, and to a table to watch another video my professor asked us to analyze. Just as I was about to put my headphones in, someone tapped on my shoulder. I twisted to see the tall male standing over me.
"Apollo?" I looked up at him with curious eyes.
"Come study with me," he smiled and I felt all my insides melt. He pointed to a room that was closed off and I grabbed my bag walking to the room with him.
He sat in the chair on the other side of the table and leaned over his notes. The hair that was visible peeking out from his blue beanie were going every which way and it was cute. Apollo was definitely cute. I couldn't deny that from myself. He was dressed in straight leg black joggers and a light blue hoodie. I was surprised that he was even matching today.
"How was your hangover yesterday?" He asked as I set up my computer on the table. He put his pen in his mouth chewing on the top of it.
"Pretty terrible. Natalie was beyond hyper asking all of these questions and I was my usual self and bitched at her. You know the drill," I shrugged my shoulders, connecting back to the WiFi.
"What kind of questions?" He spoke quietly not focusing on his homework.
"Apollo, you need to focus!" I laughed and pointed at his notebook with scribbly handwriting covering it. He smirked and chuckled a bit as he sat back in his seat.
"Hey!" He frowned as I reprimanded him.
"Fine. They were questions about you."
"What'd you say? That I was completely wonderful and romantic," his words were strung out and he fluttered his eyelashes at me like a stereotypical woman in love.
"As if!" I scoffed with a wide grin on my face. I got a text from Natalie then, next Martie, and then Marirose. "What the hell?" I opened the messages but didn't have time to read them when Kingston started yelling into the room, swinging the door open and threatening Apollo.
"I swear to God if you put one finger on my sister, I will end your life Apollo," Kingston had Harry pinned to the wall with his forearm pressing into Harry's throat.
"Kingston!" I jumped from my seat and pulled at my big brother's coat. "Stop it! He hasn't done anything!"
"Karlie sit down!" Kingston pushed me back with a hard shove to my shoulders that made me lose my balance, landing first with my hip into the table, falling down to the nasty carpeted ground in a mess, while hitting the side of my face on the edge of the table in the midst.
"What the hell, Kingston?!" Harry pushed back and I felt tears spring into my eyes.
My brow bone hurt like a bitch and I was holding my jaw with one hand. I swear it felt like I had broken it, but I knew I was being dramatic, it just really hurt, like a lot.
"Karlie," Kingston calmed down and bent onto his knees to try to fix me.
"FUCK YOU!" I screamed at him then winced, cradling my face. With my other hand I reached out and smacked him across the head with a loud smack on his skin.
"Just let me see," he tried to remove my hand from my face, but instead I bent my knee and retracted it into his legs, kicking him off balance. "Dammit Karlie! Did that make you feel better?" He was on the floor now like me, struggling to sit back up.
I cracked a smile through my tears, "A little, yeah."
I thought Harry would have smirked at my comment, but he didn't. Instead, he reached toward my face, until I pushed his hand away.
"Why the hell was my brother about to kick your ass?" I pondered and snidely gave him a look that could've paralyzed him if I had super powers.
"Karlie," he sighed and looked back in forth between my brother and me. "I don't know."
"Really?" Kingston sassed and took a massive breath into his chest, holding it in for a second, then letting it out. "Because it seems to me that everyone's talking about how you took Karlie for a ride in your Jeep the other night. I'm not stupid Apollo, I know what goes on in the back of that Jeep, and so does all of Greek."
Apollo contorted his face for a second and then ran his hand over his forehead then pulled at his bottom lip not speaking back to Kingston but thinking, contemplating what his next move was going to be.
"Was that your plan, Apollo?" my eyes widened and my voice pitched higher.
"No, God, Karlie would you just be quiet?" He backtracked and belittled me all in one sentence.
"No, fuck you!" I sneered at Apollo and started to get up.
"Would you just chill out?" Kingston launched his arm forward stopping me from getting up.
"You were literally just about to beat the shit out of him and now you're sticking up for him? Wow, thanks bro," I rolled my eyes and used the table to help me stand. I shoved my laptop into my bag and looked outside the glass wall from Apollo's study room. There were more people up here now "studying" and I could see all of their eyes on me, not Apollo, but me.
"Karlie, c'mon. We can figure this out," Apollo spoke from behind me as I watched all of the students' head's turn as I matched their eyes. "It wasn't my intention for all of this to happen. I was just looking after you. I didn't want you to do anything stupid in that part of town."
I turned back around and noticed Kingston's body language, he was angled towards Apollo with his shoulder's open to him, pledging his alliance towards him and not me.
I walked over to Apollo and started to tear up, "It's fine. You're the legend here, I get it now. And I'm just the naive freshmen skank." My eyes were blinking furiously trying to keep the water from spilling over, "I get it."
I walked back out of the room and they began spilling again. Eyes were following me as I walked out of the library and I went off the beaten path of sidewalks where the ice was slick and into the coffee house on campus. There were little to no customers and I tried trekking to the bathroom so I could freshen up.
"Karlie?" a voice called my name and I turned to see Kenny with Natalie at a table by the window. My sense of control was gone and my chin quivered signaling my eyes to water again.
"Karlie," Natalie ran over to me, wrapping her arms over my shoulders holding me as I let my tears well over.
A/N: Uh oh! Karlie is definitely not a happy camper with Harry right now.
