Saber was fast asleep, dreaming about the adventures that he would have (although he didn't know why everything looked like they were made out of squares, but he went with it). He was just about to get to the good part of his dream when he was awoken by a familiar voice scream in pain.

Getting up out of bed, he began to sneak his way down the hall. He looked to the door to Glint's room, but noticed that it was knocked down. He ran into the room to find the Golduck with a sword being pulled out of his chest stained with blood.

Saber looked on in shock at his caretaker on the floor gasping for air as a crimson colored puddle began to grow on the floor. The Greninja started to breathe heavily as he glared harder than he ever had in his life towards the stranger. "W-what are you doing?! H-how could you?!"

The figure looked to Saber. "It wasn't personal, it's just business. Now, I can't have any witnesses."

The figure began to make the Greninja into a corner. Saber was still glaring at the figure but he was hiding his fear. He can't leave any witnesses? This isn't good. This guy is going to kill me. What am I going to do?

Saber had an idea that could help him in the long run, if it worked that is. "If you are going to kill me, then shouldn't I at least get to see and know who you are? You're going to kill me anyway, so what do you have to lose?"

The cloaked figure seemed to ponder this. "Alright. What you said does make sense. I'll show you."

The stranger threw off his cloak revealing the Pokémon underneath. He was a Decidueye. but his coloration was off. His wings were pure black with the hood being a blue in color while the accent feathers were red. He also had a large scar leading from the tip of his beak, over of his right eye, and up over his forehead. At his side, hung a sheathe for the sword that he was holding.

The Decidueye looked at the young Pokémon with a calm demeanor that scared the young Greninja. "My name is Talon. I am what is known as an assassin."

Crap. This guy is on the bulletin board in the Pelipper Post Office. This guy is wanted in different parts of the globe. I've gotta get out of this jam fast. Saber looked to his caretaker to find that his breathing had gotten slower. Crap! Glint's running out of time. I need to stop this guy so that I can get him to Swana's place.

Talon began to raise his sword above his head, prepared to strike. "Any last words before I send you after the Golduck?"

In a burst of panic, Saber shouted the first thing that came to mind while clenching his eyes shut. "Liquidation!"

The next thing that the Decidueye knew was the feeling of something going through his chest. Looking down, he found a sword made out of water stabbing through him and some of his blood that was now splattered on the younger Pokémon's face.

Saber felt his attack going to the side. When he opened his eyes, he saw Talon slumping over, dead. It was here that the Greninja realized what he had done and proceeded to throw up into a nearby waste basket.

Once his stomach was empty, he went over to Glint as he was laying on the ground while taking gasping breaths. The Greninja desperately tried to stop the bleeding to no avail. That was when he felt the Golduck's hand grab his wrist.

"Saber," Glint weakly said, "I want... you to listen... to me."

Saber was beginning to feel his eyes begin to water. "Please, s-s-save your strength. Y-you are the only family I have left. You can't l-leave me like this."

The Golduck only smiled. "N-never... have I had anyone... in my... l-life... that is as... kind as you. I am glad that... you are one... that I c-can... call my son. One last time... I'm glad... to... say that... I l-love y-you, Saber." After these words were said, the life faded from the Golduck's eyes.

"Glint? Glint!? DAD!? Please, don't let this be possible! Please wake up!" He said crying his eyes out.

He didn't even know when Officer Astron came into the room and saw the mess. The Greninja felt himself being dragged away from his caretaker's body. He tried fighting back, but he was knocked unconscious with a sedative.

Days Later at the station's residency

Astron was staring at the door. "It's been days since the funeral, and he hasn't left that room at all except to get food."

Spritz sighed. "I'll go talk to him." He got up from where he was sitting and went to the door. He knocked on it. "Saber? I'm coming in."

Stepping inside, the Goodra saw the young Greninja laying down on the bed facing away from the door. Spritz walked over and pulled a chair over to the bedside and sat on it.

"Listen," the Goodra started, "I can't say I know how you are feeling, but I have seen others in your situation." Saber turned a little showing one of his bloodshot eyes which showed that he was currently crying, "You are not going to be held acountable for Talon's death. I know I've said this alot, but..."

"It's not that," the statement made the Dragon type look surprised at the younger Pokémon, "It's the fact that I did kill him. I've heard stories from the veteran explorers talking about how after their first kill, they didn't feel anything the next time that they killed someone. Am I just going to become some merciless killer?"

"Listen here, Saber." Spritz said sternly, "Just because you have killed doesn't make you a psychopath. You just have to learn when it is okay to kill. These kinds of things take time. One way to have help for you is to make friends. One way to do that is to travel around. I heard that there is a new branch of the Expedition Society is in the Metal Continent*." The Goodra then handed over a passport with a ticket, a map, and a slightly crumpled application for the Society.

Saber looked at the items being handed to him and sitting up to look the Chief of police in the eye. "Are you sure that this is a good idea? I mean, I do want to join the society, but are you sure that I should go to this branch?"

The Goodra only chuckled. "There's only one way for you to find out. So, are you up for an adventure?

The next day, we see our young hero at the dock with all of Serene Village there to see him off. There were some tearful farewells between the Greninja and the other Pokémon. Saber said his farewells and got onto one of the Lapras Ferries that was all set to head off across the seas to the Metal Continent.

The Greninja took one last look behind him to wave to the Pokémon that come to know his whole life. "Goodbye everyone! I'm off to begin my new adventure! I'll miss you all! Thank you for being there for me all these years!"

The Lapras that Saber was on turned to all of the passengers on its shell. "Okay folks, we are all set to head off to the Metal Continent. I am your Captain, Gary. I hope that you have everything packed with you," Captain Gary said motioning to the luggage barge that he was pulling, "Please remember that this trip can be a little rough, so make sure that your vomit goes overboard."

This is it. Saber thought to himself, This is the beginning of the rest of my life.

*I did not know what else to call a continent for gen 8 Pokémon, so this is what I am going to call the continent that most of this story will take place at.
