chapter fourteen: Mr. Dragon

The box was heavy... Really heavy... In hindsight, Kathryn should have thought to mention it... But between a frantic Nick, and Edmund who was just about to find out about his sister and niece, she didn't want to trouble anyone with complaints about a heavy box... She disobeyed her parents, brothers - Paul and Ryan, and her sister, Tammy. Who for some incomprehensible reason wanted her to join battler class... Well, not Tammy... Tammy didn't want her to be a Zodiac Mistress at all. She wanted her home and safe. "Three zodiac masters in a family is enough, Kath, go and do something that you want that will ensure your safety."

Kathryn followed half of that advice... She did do something that she wanted. But she wasn't going to live her life hiding behind her siblings and parents who always found her to be a weakling. And whenever she asked why her parents would always point out a particular situation in her childhood.

A dragon broke into their village when her family was visiting. The current captain enraged at the damage contacted a member of what was the current zodiac council and requested for permission to kill the dragon.

To which they responded okay but do it discreetly...

Well, they found the dragon in Jess's mothers' backyard where Jess, Kathryn, and another friend were frolicking. At first the dragon played around with the children and even let them ride on his back so you readers can imagine little Kathryn's absolute horror when they came in and tried to kill "Mr.Dragon." - yes that's what the children called him.

So Kathryn stood in between what she saw as lunatics with weapons trying to kill a nice dragon and Mr.Dragon.

And boy did she let her opinion be known! - she cried out for neighbours, her Aunt (who was meant to be minding them), her elder cousin, her friends' parents, and Ryan...

Soon half the barangay rushed to the scene to see the captain (whom they entrusted with the safety of them and their children.) Using his powers against one of the kids he was sworn to protect... He lost his job pretty quickly... After being beaten up by Mr. Dragon for pointing a weapon at him and the child.

Turns out the destruction of property was retribution for going into the dragons' territory and accidentally injuring his wife... The people who didn't even know of the property figured out that once more, rich folks scammed them of their money... At the end of the day, they were kinda glad that Mr. Dragon destroyed it.

But her mother dragged Kathryn home by the ear and yelled at her for her stupidity and called her weak for it... Stupidity was weakness after all...

To her mother, she would forever be that weakling who didn't know when to run for the hills as Jess and her friend did. Ryan however pulled her out of there for a while whilst their mom calmed down before she could yell at Kathryn once more...

The next day their mother sat them both down and gave them a speech about how they weren't special, they were flesh, weak, and a mere flick of dust in the wheel of time. Cruel cold words that were true.

This was around 2012... Around the time Zia and Guanxi began appearing in her dreams comforting her.

She so badly wanted to bring them to life. Of course they were alive but she wanted so badly to meet them in real life! So began her dream to join one of the Artist branches but at the time she didn't know which...

To this day Kathryn wondered if the dragon and his wife were okay.

Back to the present Kathryn strong-armed the box up the stairs. When two muscled, helpful hands reached under the box alleviating the pain.

"Hey there! Need a hand?"

A red-headed lad with sparkling golden eyes so similar to Zia said with a smile... Felix.

"Yes please!"
