"riley, come on. we're going to your dad's." i told my kid. their head turned towards me.
"we've never been to dad's. i didn't even know he had a house." they replied. i chuckled. whenever we spent time with tyler, it was either at my house or somewhere else. riley and i had yet to see tyler's house.
"oh, my mistake! your grammy-winning father actually lives on the streets." i said, sarcastically. riley giggled.
"unfortunate and ironic." they said.
they went to the door and got their vans on and i got my converse on. i grabbed my keys and phone, and we went out to my car.
"did dad give you his address?" riley asked me. i nodded.
"yeah we we're on the phone this morning when we made plans." i told them.
"what happened last night after i went to bed?" riley asked.
"nothing, really. we talked a bit and then your dad went home." i didn't want to tell them about tour yet. i wanted to wait for tyler.
"okayy." riley said, seemingly unsatisfied with my answer.
it turned out tyler's house was only twenty minutes away from mine. we got out and went up to the front door, ringing the doorbell. tyler answered within seconds.
"hey, guys. come on in." he greeted us. we went inside into what i assumed was his kitchen. it was big but at the same time modern.
"the living room is right over there. you guys want something to drink?" tyler asked us.
"water." i requested.
"coke." riley replied. we made our way to the living room as tyler got us drinks.
"already had them bottled, hope that's cool." tyler said as he handed us our drinks. we thanked him and he sat down.
"dad, can i use your bathroom real quick?" riley asked tyler. he nodded.
"yeah, it's right down the hall to the left." he told them. they got up and made their way to the bathroom and tyler turned to me.
"so you still want to go on tour?" he asked me, making sure. i nodded.
"as long as riley wants to, which i'm sure they will. but i will always put their best interests before anyone else's." i replied.
"i completely understand. you do have really good parenting, y/n."
"thanks, ty." i smiled.
"i always missed you calling me that." tyler told me, making me smile harder.
"what's got mom all smiley?" riley asked when they returned.
"we have to ask you something." i told them.
"what's up?"
"how would you like us to join dad during takeover tour?"
"really?!" riley immediately got excited.
"of course! i'd love having you guys with us." tyler said. riley hugged him.
"i'd love that too!" they said, practically cheering. tyler and i giggled at their reaction. our kid was so cute.
"wait that means i'll have my birthday on tour right?" riley realized. their birthday was on halloween, which was still a week before tour ended.
"yep. is that okay?" i asked them. they smiled.
"duh! touring the country on my birthday sounds SICK!"
"when's your birthday, riley?" tyler asked riley.
"halloween. pretty cool isn't it?" they told him.
"i'll say." tyler agreed.
we stayed for a little while longer when we decided to go home so we could pack and get to bed early. we had to be to tyler's at 6 am so we could get on the tour bus and make it to denver by tuesday.
when we got home, riley rushed upstairs asking what they should bring to wear.
"should i bring this? or this? wait how about this?" they asked me, holding up a few items. i laughed.
"just bring it all. we're gonna be on the road for over a month." i reminded them.
"so true. i'm bringing it all." they decided.
it took us an hour and a half to pack everything and get it in my trunk. by then it was dinner time and we just decided to order a pizza.
"i'm excited. do you think dads gonna introduce me to his fans? or tell them about me?" riley started conversation.
"i'm sure he will do something along those lines. they might start to wonder why he's got a kid just chilling with him at every place he's performing." i replied.
"that part makes me nervous. when they find out about me..that's a lot of people. what if they don't like me? or i get hate for being non-binary? or they think i don't matter because i haven't always been in dad's life-"
"riley. they're going to love you. you're the spitting image of your father, there's no way they won't love you." i interrupted riley, reassuring them. they had every right to be nervous. but i also knew, that despite there probably would be some assholes out there, a majority of tyler's fandom would be welcoming.
"do you really mean it, mom?" riley asked me.
"absolutely, ry." i assured them.
after we ate dinner, we chilled out for a while and eventually were in bed by nine. we had a long day coming our way and we needed to be well rested.
but not just a long day. a long tour month was coming our way.
