a few days later

a few days passed and we were able to go to columbus for the week. the boys had two shows there and they weren't until friday and saturday. and then on sunday it was halloween and also riley's birthday.

we were down to our last few shows and it was a bit sad. it wasn't that we'd stop seeing tyler after tour (we'd actually probably see him more considering he'd have more free time with not having to play shows) but i just liked traveling with everyone and spending extra time with tyler.

you like living with tyler. you're head over heels for him and it's tearing you down because you're not together. admit it.

"y/n," i looked over to see tyler. we were at my house because since we were home for the week, we didn't have a reason to stay in the tour bus. "do you think i can take riley costume shopping? since halloween and his birthday are on sunday."

"yeah, sure. that's a good idea. want me too come with?" i replied. he shook his head.

"how about you take a day to relax, y/n? you haven't had much alone time since tour started, and i've got riley." he told me. tyler was right. i hadn't had much alone time since tour started.

"okay, that works. i really appreciate that."

"i'll go tell riley to get ready."

"so, is there anything specific you want to be for halloween?" i asked riley. he shrugged.

"i'm really into horror, so nothing soft or basic." he replied. i nodded, understandingly. then i smirked.

"want to scare the shit out of your mother?" i asked him.

"i'm listening." he smirked.

we picked out riley's costume and he told me that it was the best idea yet. i took pride in that, i was glad that he liked my idea.

after we picked out his costume, i asked him if he wanted to go out to eat at taco bell and he happily accepted. i wanted to spend quality time with him, so we went inside and dined in.

i got a chalupa and a burrito but riley just got three doritos locos tacos. we both got mountain dew baja blasts and sat at a booth.

"i like this." riley told me. i chuckled.

"i agreed. taco bell is dope." i replied. he shook his head.

"first of all, don't say dope. that's so outdated. and second, i mean i like spending time with just you, dad. it's nice."

i smiled. that was probably my favorite compliment i had ever received.

"i like it too. i love you, kiddo, and i'm really glad i have you in my life now."

we sat and ate in bliss but there was something i really wanted to ask him. but i didn't want y/n to be right and for riley to be completely against it. but i really did doubt that he would be against it.

"hey, ry, can i ask you something? or talk to you about something?" i asked my son. he nodded.

"what's up, dad?" he asked me.

"next week is our last week of shows until june and i really want to do something, but i wanted to see if you were alright with it."

"what is it?"

"i'm still in love with your mother. i always have been, and i always will be. i love you both and there's nothing i want more for us to be a family. i wanted to plan something where i would bring your mother on stage and ask her to be with me. not a proposal of marriage, it's too early for that, but just to be my girlfriend. but i'll only do it if you're comfortable with it, because the last thing your mom and i would ever want is for you to be overwhelmed."

riley sat and processed my idea before smiling, widely.

"you're still in love with mom." he said. i nodded. "i think- no, i know she's still in love with you too. you have to do it, dad, you have to ask her."

i felt a ping of butterflies flood my stomach for a moment. even though i already kissed y/n, it felt different hearing from someone she's extremely close with that she loves me back.

"so you're okay with this?" i checked. riley nodded, vigorously.

"absolutely. from the start, i've been wanting you and mom to get back together. but, you have include me in the planning for asking her. i want to help." he told me. i nodded. i absolutely could do that.

"deal. but you can't tell her. i want to surprise her."

riley did a gesture where he zipped his lips, locked it, and threw away the key. i just chuckled and shook my head.

"okay, kiddo. we gotta finish eating and get you home before your mom thinks i kidnapped you."
