May ran down the stairs, two at a time, with her uncle in hot pursuit. "I swear I didn't do anything! It was there one minute, the next gone!" She yelled over her shoulder at her angry uncle. Uncle Vernon let out a strangled yell and made another leap to grab May. May ran down the last few steps and into the cupboard under the stairs, which happened to be where her and her brother slept. She closed the door behind her and turned to see her brother, Harry, sitting on his bed. May smiled at him and sat on her own. Harry and May soon heard Uncle Vernon open the grate to talk to them. "No meals." Harry and May heard him say. May sighed and looked at her 10 year old brother. She and her brother would soon be turning 11 on July 31st. May smiled sadly and began trying to find something to do in their cupboard home.

May and Harry woke with a start when their aunt, Petunia, rapped on the door. "We're up." May groaned at the door. She shook Harry awake and walked out to the kitchen, leaving Harry in the cupboard. May soon began making the bacon for breakfast. Harry soon came into the kitchen, helping May with breakfast. He began making eggs beside her, listening to the Dursley's conversation.

Soon the doorbell rang, signaling the mail arriving. "May go get the mail." Vernon barked. May nodded, obediently, and walked to the door. She picked up the mail and began searching it. She peered at the pieces of mail and stopped when she saw two letters addressed to her and her brother. She dropped one letter into the cupboard under the stairs and decided to show her brother his letter first. May walked into the kitchen to see everybody sitting at the table. She handed Vernon the mail and tugged on her brother's collar. "Dad, May's got a letter." Dudley, the Dursley's son, spoke. Vernon grabbed the letter. "Hey!" May yelled as her uncle took the letter. Vernon glared at her and looked at the letter. "That's Harry's!" She yelled. Harry looked at his sister curiously. Nobody ever sent them mail. May gave him a look that said 'We'll talk about it later.' Harry nodded and looked back at his uncle, who began to push all the children out of the room, even Dudley. They all pressed their ears to the door, trying to hear the Dursley's conversation. May gave up and walked back to her cupboard to read her own letter. As she picked up her letter, she noticed the address stating the cupboard under the stairs. She called her brother into the cupboard and showed him the letter. "Open it." Harry urged. May smiled and began to finger at the seal on the back of the envelope. As she finally broke the seal, Vernon came stomping down the hall. May shoved the letter behind her back as her uncle opened the door. She stared curiously as he gave a strained smile. "I think it's getting too cramped in here for the two of you. You will be moved into Dudley's second bedroom." He said. May raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything as her uncle continued, "Pack up your things and move them to the room." May and Harry nodded and their uncle left. Harry took his toy soldier and the small amount of clothes they had inherited from Dudley and May took the letter.

Harry and May ran up the stairs, setting down the small amount of possessions in their new room. May smiled and took her letter out of her pocket. She beckoned Harry over to her and sat on a bed in the room. She giggled softly as they heard Dudley throwing a tantrum over the room.

May fumbled once more at the seal and before she could take out the letter she was interrupted once again.
She looked to the door as her cousin burst through it. She shoved the letter back in her pocket once again and turned to look at Dudley. "Why did they have to give my room to you two!" He yelled, clearly angry about this new arrangement. May shrugged and hoped for him to leave soon so she could finally open her letter in peace. She was relieved when he turned around and stumbled out the door. She hurriedly took out the letter and finally opened it. Inside she found:

Ms. Potter,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on 1 September.

May's eyes widened at the letter. "H-Harry?" She stuttered. Harry joined her on the bed and stared at the letter too. May watched as his eyes grew wide as well. "Y-you're a witch?" He stuttered. May turned the page and saw the list they referred to in the first sheet and answered him, "I guess so." Harry leaned on her shoulder as he read the list. "Where do they expect you to get all this from?" He asked. May shrugged and realized what Harry's letter must have contained. "Harry do you think this could've been what was in your letter?" She asked her brother. Harry's eyes widened. He simply nodded. "This would explain how I sent that snake on Dudley." May said. Harry nodded and frowned. "Do you think the Dursley's would ever let us go though?" He asked. May frowned too as she shook her head. "What are we going to do?" She groaned.
