You woke up happy as hell for school. For the first time in your life you were excited for the first day of school. This was your first time having lashes and your hair done in a lace front, you were looking good as hell. "Mom-, I know you lying." You came into her room seeing her and your dad cuddled up. "He won't get off of me." She said. "Slap him ma, I need you." You told her. "Jonathan, move up off me now." She slapped the back of his head. "Damn!" He rolled off of her. "I'll meet you in the bathroom." She told you and you went back to your room.
She came into the bathroom to help you with your hair and makeup wearing the robe and slippers you gave her for Mother's Day. "Why was sad in your bed?" You asked her. "Because he was scared to sleep by himself." Your mom started to do your makeup. She could tell you didn't believe that. "You ready for your first day?" She changed the topic. "I'm excited." You told her. "That's good. I don't think I've ever seen you this excited for school." She finished off your makeup. "Because I've never been this excited for school." You said and looked at yourself in the mirror. It was a really natural look, but it somehow made you feel prettier.
You put your clothes on careful not to get makeup on your shirt.
Then you went to sit at the dining room table. Your mom brought the hair stuff to the table and she did your hair while you ate your breakfast. "Awwww, my baby looking so pretty!" Your mom smiled excitedly. Your mom always knew how to make you smile. This time when she called you pretty you actually felt pretty. You loved the feeling of knowing you were pretty. (As you should)
The hair-
You met your friends outside your house. Jaylani was finally going to the same school as you, so the whole gang was together. "We look good as fuck." Jaylani said recording. "We do." You posed for the camera. "Rapunzle, rapunzle let down your hair." Ava said looking at you. "And look at you with your lil bob." Ava cut her hair in the summer because it was heat damages at the ends. She had bangs that covered her eyebrows. Ava was looking cute. Kaden had some straight bundles in. Destiny had some long butterfly locs. Jaylani had in a cute half up half down bob hairstyle.
You were glad to already have a solid friend group, so you wouldn't look out of place at school. Everyone was on their phones, FaceTiming their friends to find them. All the freshmen and sophomores were dressed like it was fashion week, but you only saw a sprinkle of juniors and seniors dressed up.
You and your friends parted ways when the four minute warning bell rang and you went to class. Your first period was chemistry, and guess who was in the same class? Bokuto. You didn't sit by him though, instead a dude called you over to sit by him.
"Yo, come here!" The guy in the back called to you. You walked over there because he was cute. "Sit by me." He said. "Alright, bet." You sat down on the stool and set you backpack down. "You the first black person I seen, come in here." He said. "You know they finna come late. The bathrooms was packed." You told him. "I just moved here, so I ain't know nobody." He shrugged. "I can tell." You laughed a little. "How?" He asked. "Your lil accent different, you from Alabama?" You asked him. "Yeah...how you know that?" He asked. "I got family in Alabama." You say and you guys just talked until class started. Then you guys were whispering while the teacher spoke. You guys had such an immediate bond that you didn't even ask for his name first. You found out his name was Kel from the roll call list.
Through the rest of the day until lunch you guys hung out since you had the same classes as him. "Aye, y/n!" Kel yelled catching up to you as you were leaving school. "Yeah?" You looked at him. "Where you going?" He asked. "To eat." You told him. "I don't got no friends except for you, so imma go with you." Kel said looking down at you. "Bet, I gotta text my friends though." You said while texting them. "We can go now." You put your phone away.
"Where we goin?" He asked with his Alabama accent heavy. "We finna eat, where you think we going?" You opened the door to your mom's soul food restaurant. "Ma!" You called for her as you walked into the kitchen. "Get yo ass out my damn kitchen!" She smacked you with a spoon. "Owwww." You walked back out meeting Kel. "What your friend want?" She asked. "What can I get for $10?" He licked his lips looking at the menu. "Two chicken legs, cornbread, and baked macaroni ." She said. "I'll get that then." He says handing the cashier his money. "What you want y/n?" Your mom asked. "I'll get the same thing as him with two cookie stuffed red velvet brownies." You said with a smile.
(Those the brownies)
"Alright." She quickly plated the food and handed them to the both of you. "Y'all have fun at school." She waved and then tended to the next customers. You and Kel sat at the table and immediately started eating. You could never get tired of your mom's cooking. "This chicken good as hell." He said after swallowing. "I know." You said trying to eat pretty, but when you are your mom's food you couldn't control how you ate.
It was quiet between both of you as you stuffed your faces. "I forgot to get the drinks." You said after you realized you didn't order any drinks. "Can I get two sweet drinks?" You asked your mom. "Come pour it yourself." Your mom told you. You quickly scooped ice into the cups and then poured the mix of kool-aid, sprite, and pineapple juice into the large cups. You put the tops on and then grabbed two straws.
You placed the cups on the table and sat across from Kel. "This the best lunch I done had." He sat back feeling bloated and filled from the food. "Every time you eat it, it feels like the first time." You chuckled. "Imma come here everyday then." He smiled at you.
"So, why'd you come to Atlanta?" You asked him after your food digested a little. "I got expelled from my last school." He shrugged. "Why?" You looked a little surprised. "The white kids was tripping and I got tired of them, so I just started jumping them with my friends. The school found out during the summer and expelled me from the high school I was going to, and then my momma sent my ass over here to live with my bitch-ass dad." Kel explained.
"Oh, we'll those white kids probably deserved it." You said. "They did, calling the black kids all kinds of slurs on Instagram and shit. Me and my friends had to do somethin." He shrugged it off and laughed. "I get it, don't feel bad about what you did." You said making him just smile. "You one of the only people that said that." He looked into your eyes with happiness. "Everybody should've told you that what you did wasn't wrong." You told him making him even happier. That's when he started liking you.
(A/N: I feel like it's been forever since I updated this book. Mostly because I didn't have any ideas and because I though people didn't like this book at all. I'm probably gonna promote this book on my TikTok tomorrow. Hopefully, it'll get more reads. Anyways... xoxo Samiya The Author.)
