Sorry if this chapter is short. I didn't really know what to put in here so this was sort of a last-minute brainstorm thing.
-------------------
Science class was average to Misty. The only things that the class did on the first day were to introduce themselves, pick a partner for the first semester of the school year, and work on filling out a few basic forms. There wasn't any classwork specifically that needed to be done. The bell had rung a few seconds ago and Misty walked outside the classroom when she saw Haisley waiting for her by the door.
"Oh hi, I didn't know you were here." She greeted.
"Well, you do now. Come one, we need to get to lunch, I'm going to die if I don't eat something."
Misty laughed, "Yeah, I think I'm probably gonna drop from the face of this planet too."
The two girls walked to the cafeteria as their conversation kept on flowing at a smooth pace. If they finished talking about one topic, they would casually go on to talk about another one. By the time they reached their cafeteria, they had talked enough to know almost everything about each other. Still talking about who knows what, Misty and Haisley sat down at the table closest to the door. Haisley sat right next to her, leaving one other seat to her left.
"Finally, we can eat," Misty said, opening her lunch box. "I'm famished."
"Well, you can eat, I still have to wait to get to the line," Haisley informed.
"Oh yeah, that's true, but still, at least we got here before one of us passed out."
"Yeah, I guess you're right."
Even though she had this many times before, Misty was still excited to try it again. The last time she was able to get enough time to cook this was last year. And somehow, she could make it in under 15 minutes this morning.
She lifted the lid off of her thermos to reveal a mouth-watering meal of ramen noodles that were carefully mixed with seasoning, broth, and other elements that she put to improve the taste. Misty also had to make sure that the appearance itself of the noodles had to be good. The aromatic broth had given off a warmth that would even make the coldest of winters enjoyable. Misty lifted her chopsticks and took in a small amount of her lunch. The moment she was able to get a savorable taste, she was pleasantly overwhelmed by the rushing flow of flavors. The noodles were soft and creamy, the egg yolk wasn't fully cooked but yet warm and ever so slightly runny. The mushrooms had gone so perfectly with the meat broth and to her surprise, nothing at all had seemed to taste greasy. Misty closed her eyes to just savor that warm feeling on her tongue.
"So, does it taste good? It definitely looks like you're enjoying it."
Misty opened her eyes and looked up at Haisley, who was now standing up. "Yeah, it tastes good, definitely way better than what I thought while I was making it. "
"Hold on wait, you made that?" Haisley asked.
"Yeah, last time I checked, I'm pretty sure I made it."
"What, hold on let me process that. You, Misty Coldon, made that? Made as in, cooked from scratch?" Haisley asked, completely taken aback by her friend's response.
"Yeah, I made it this morning when I realized I forgot to make lunch," Misty reassured.
"Okay well, I'm hungry and this is too much information for me to process. I need to go get food."
Misty let out a light laugh, "Okay then, guess I have to wait for you now."
"Yeah, yeah whatever. See ya in a few."
"Mhm sure, I hope you don't get lost since you are just ever so hungry."
Haisley rolled her eyes and left to get her lunch, leaving Misty to eat alone for a few minutes. She turned around and continued to eat when she saw someone standing near their table out of the corner of her eye.
"Uh, hi, can I help you?" She asked awkwardly.
"Oh yeah, sorry. Can I sit here please?"
"Um, I think so. The seat next to me is taken, my friend went to go get her lunch, so you can sit anywhere else if you want to." Misty answered.
"Okay, thanks."
"No problem."
Misty was about to go back to eating when curiosity got the better of her. She glanced up from the table and turned her head to get a better look at the mystery student. He was sitting right next to her, which she didn't expect. But at that moment, he looked up from his lunch and looked straight at her. This allowed Misty to get a better look at him. He had soft green eyes that held nothing but the gentleness of a warm spring day in a lush meadow. Eyes that were looking straight at her just the same way she was looking at him. Misty instantly tried to create an excuse for herself.
"Oh, uh, sorry, I didn't mean to stare like that,"
"Huh? Oh yeah, don't worry about it, I stare at people for no reason sometimes. It's weird."
"Well, that's definitely an interesting habit you've got. Guess I gotta get used to it."
He grinned, "Apparently I'm special."
Misty allowed herself to offer him a light laugh. Then she saw Haisley walking up to their table. "Oh, you're finally here."
"Yeah, most of the time it takes a really short amount of time but a bunch of people were crowding around the first counter so it took longer," Haisley explained as she sat down in her seat next to Misty.
"Wasn't there supposed to be like 3 different special treats in all of the 3 counters? What were they?" Misty asked.
"I think so, it was something like a sugar cookie, ice cream, and uh donut? It might be a cinnamon roll or something though,"
"So which one did you pick?"
"I picked ice cream. It's been so long since we last had ice cream as a part of school menus. Wait, Dillian? When did you get here?"
"You're kidding me. I've been here for the past 6 minutes."
"Wait really?" Haisley asked, tilting her head.
"Oh, so that's your name. I was wondering what I was gonna call you." Misty said in a low voice.
"You guys know each other?" Haisley inquired as she stuffed a handful of bread in her mouth.
"Not really, he just asked to sit here, and then we had a really random conversation," Misty explained.
"Eh, same thing."
"Sure," Dillan responded sarcastically. He rolled his eyes in such a sassy manner that it was impossible for the other two people at the table to not laugh. At first, they looked at Dillan as if he had spaghetti for brains. Then, almost as if it was set in time like clockwork, the trio burst into fits of laughter.
Misty took another sip of her lunch, she was enjoying the company that her friends were offering. It had been a while since she was able to have a good laugh. Misty smiled to herself.
She could get used to this without any problems at all.
