Now in her 5th-period class, Misty looked out the window and stared at the endless stretch of sky, occasionally splattered with fluffy splotches of white cloud. Having some of her classrooms on the second floor allowed her to get a good view of the school grounds. Misty envied how the clouds traveled across the sky with ease. Not once stopping to think about their previous positions.

'I wish I could do that . . .'

"Hey, watcha doing?" She heard a voice ask.

Misty jumped in her seat, but relaxed when she saw that it was none other than Haisley. "Oh you know, just waiting for the teacher. He's taking too long."

Haisley looked out the window just as Misty had a few moments ago and then set her books down and settled down in her chair. "Well yeah, he's taking too long. But you're thinking about something."

"Really? I am? How did you know?"

"Quit stalling and tell me before I throw my eraser at you."

"Please do, I'd love to be hit by a piece of rubber that's bigger than your IQ."

Haisley shrugged and reached for the spare eraser sitting on her table and gently threw it at Misty, careful not to hurt her. The eraser bounced off of her shoulder and landed on the floor with a soft thud that was too quiet to be heard. Misty looked at the eraser for a few seconds before dramatically putting a hand on her chest.

"Oh the agony, what am I to do?"

"I know, so painful. Now tell me before I decide to throw my hands instead of an eraser."

"Okay, okay fine." Misty surrendered. "You know how I told you that I'd think about the competition?"

"Yeah? What about it?"

"Well, I may or may not have signed up."

Haisley stayed silent for a few minutes before she finally understood what she heard. "You're not joking? You actually signed up?"

"Yeah, I was thinking about that," Misty explained.

Haisley couldn't help feeling happy but still wanted to make sure that her friend wasn't worried. "So why were you worried?"

Misty leaned back in her chair so that she could be looking at the ceiling and sighed. "I wish you didn't ask me. I'd tell you if I knew."

Haisley smiled, "Guess there's nothing I can do about it now. I already asked, didn't I?"

"Yeah, you already asked. So now I have to tell you, don't I?"

"Look at you, you're learning. Good job." Haisley remarked.

"I feel like I'm going to regret this. What if something happens at home?"

Haisley stayed silent for a few minutes as she rested her head on the palm of her hands and looked at the whiteboard at the very front of the classroom. Sitting there, with nothing to say, Misty looked at Haisley, as if looking at her would be able to help her fathom what she was thinking. After what felt like an eternity to her, Haisley turned to look at Misty, slightly startled to find that Misty was looking at her. But she smiled and her friend smiled back, not knowing what to do. "I think I have an idea but I'm not sure if it'll work or not."

"What is it? I'm desperate."

Haisley was about to say something when she saw their teacher enter the room. Haisley gave Misty an apologetic smile that meant they would talk when school was over.

Guess she would have to wait.

-------------

The last 2 hours seemed to stretch on for what seemed like 2 days. It was becoming harder to wait as time passed. The second the bell rang, everyone in Misty's last class immediately got up from their seats and gathered their things, wasting no time to leave.
