Wilson carefully read over his brilliantly-crafted instructions, holding the folded paper gently in his grip. He could never seem to get his experiments to turn out the way he wanted. They either did nothing, did something else, or blew up in his face. (literally)
But something felt right about this particular experiment. He had brainstormed this test for days, and he was almost certain nothing could go wrong. To be sure, he looked at the page one last time, sighed, and glanced back at the wooden rack of glass vials on the wall.
This is it...
The determined scientist hastily moved towards the test tubes, snatching one into his hand and still holding onto the instructions in the other, placing the various tubes onto the workbench. He slowly took a step back to reach into a chest drawer, rummaging through the contents before grabbing out a strange jug filled with a gross liquid of some sort, putting it next to the rest of the things he would need.
And before he forgot, Wilson quickly got the last thing. A cauldron to stir his mixes in. The large pot was heavy and although it strained his back whenever he tried to carry it, pushing it ever-so-slightly closer to his workspace was not a problem.
"Alright, this is it." He huffed, before looking back down at the paper tight in his grasp. "This will go down in history." Wilson smiled to himself, and got to work.
Fluid dripped down from the tip of the vial that he held, about to be poured into a much-larger beaker filled with another substance. Wilson let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding in. If this didn't work, he didn't know what he would do next. No-no no what was he thinking? Of course this work, it had to work!
...Right?
Yeah, it would work. He had nothing to worry about!
Wilson finally gave in and poured the contents of the vial into the other.
It slowly dripped down, sinking into the glass and causing bubbles to rise. It took a moment for a reaction to occur, but in a matter of seconds the liquid had completely changed colour, and its scent now smelled of bad perfume. When he looked down and noticed the glass container shaking, his skin turned pale and he immediately backed away as the contents shot right out of the top of the tube, creating a puddle on the floor. Wilson blinked, and looked down at the mess. He let out an angry groan, all of his hard work was for nothing.
"Of course... I shouldn't of gotten my hopes up... but... the next experiment will be better...!" The man spoke to himself as he felt a pit form in his gut, how did he not expect this to happen!? His experiments are always failures but that doesn't mean he's a bad scientist... right? He was supposed to be the best, the greatest. If he was so great then why did everything turn out like this? He only wanted to be succesful... why do these things happen to hi-And then he saw it.
A minature, red figure. Molding out of the puddle on the floor, trying to put itself together. It had two stumps for legs, something square on its back, and a little blue visor on its face. The creature squealed and cried... it was just a baby? Wilson sat there still in shock, w-what was this thing? D-Did he create it? How...
All of his thoughts were cut off when he realized he had to soothe its crying, as cute as this abomination was its loud cries were irritating. So Wilson quietly crawled towards it, talking in a smooth calm voice while it cried on the floor.
"Shhh... Shh... its okay." He whispered nervously, softly picking it up and cradling it in his arms. It closed its eye, softening its noises, growing more still with every second that passed. It took alot of strength to not move a muscle as it slowed down. And Wilson was extra quiet when it began to snore. The creature turned over, snuggling into the touch, and finally drifted into a deep sleep.
