Throughout school I was distracted. Could this man be my father? My actual father? And I'm sure he knows me. You don't look at someone like that! He must've seen my name and then looked at me- I am the splitting image of my momma so of course he'd recognise me.
I decided when I get home to ask my mum about my dad. She's fair so she'd tell me the truth. It's just...I never asked .
I couldn't tell Ruby or Jay about this either they are my best friends but not even this I can share...not until I have more information.
I had to get the bus because Mums still at work so I took it with Jay. He was the usual; random banter, tries to recite poetry about trees he sees, complains about his family.
"Ari?" He stopped "Are you okay? Because if it's because of that teacher I'm sure it's probably because he heard other teachers complaining about you or something!"
I smiled because Jay is sweet like that. He always tries to reassure you
"Oh right..thanks Jay that's probably it." I lie. Then it's my stop. I say bye to Jay and get off. I notice a Black merc outside our house. That's new? I open the door
"IM HOOOOMMEEE!" I yell
Mum rushes out of the living room, a man following behind. He's tall, blonde, greyish eyes,wears a suit.
"Ari I'd like you to meet a good friend of mine, Mason, Mason meet my daughter Ariana." She gestures to me to shake hands so I do so
"Nice to meet you." I say with a smile though it's not a real smile, there's something about this guy I don't like.
"Well I'd love to stay and chat but I have homework so..." I walk upstairs
"Actually I was just about to leave." Mason says "Nice to meet you Ariana." He kisses my Mum's cheek and whispers "I'll call you tonight."
I saw that AND I heard that. But I don't say.
After Mason leaves I notice Mum has a certain sparkle in her eye. So I decided to ask her at dinner.
"Pasta bake!" Mum announces as she puts me a plate in.
We're halfway through our dinner when I finally decide to ask.
"Mum...I have a question...about my Dad..."
Mum puts her fork down and looks at me. She hesitates before she says
"What would you like to know?"
"Everything...what did he look like...how did you two meet." I say "And why he left us" I whisper.
Mum clears her throat
"Well he had brown hair...light brown a very light brown, chocolate brown eyes...that's all I remember."
I know she's lying.
"Mum why did he leave us?" I ask
"It was a decision we both made it was best if we split up."
"And what about me?! Did you not think about me?!"
"Now Ari-"
"NO MUM TELL ME EVERYTHING IN FULL DETAIL!" I yell
"DONT YOU YELL AT ME! Have some respect! You don't need to know the details your dad was a horrible man okay? And I don't want to hear about him!"
Tears filled my eyes. I stormed out to my bedroom...
I wake up sometime during the night and I hear my mum on the phone
"She's really wants to know about her Dad. I had no choice.......I do need a break........this weekend?............Okay I can get a day off work and Ari can have one of her friends stay over.
PERFECT! I can tell Jay and Ruby and while Mums gone they can help me.
