That night it all went through my head. Every last bit of my and aunt Eva's conversation. Mr Sperling. Is. My. DAD!
*Wednesday English lesson*
I did not pay attention at all yet again that lesson. All I could think about was Mr Sperling.
Did he know I was his daughter? If he did then why didn't he- My thoughts were interrupted
"Ariana. I haven't heard from you for a while. Name a technique the writer uses."
"Oh." I say looking down at my book scrambling for ideas "A metaphor."
The whole class laughs.
"Ssh class settle down." He says "Good work the writer does use a metaphor but we're doing structural devices. Do you have any?"
"No..sorry sir." I mumble
That was so embarrassing please kill me now I think
The end of the lesson finally comes and before he dismisses us he asks me to wait behind. As everybody leaves Jay and Ruby ask me if I want them to wait for me.
"Nah you guys go ahead." I say
"What did you want to see me about?" I ask
"Well Ariana I've noticed that compared to your past work,your work now is abit...different. You don't seem to be paying attention much and you don't do nearly as enough work as you used to. Is there any problem?"
"No sir." I lie "it's probably because I've just come back from the holidays or something."
"Right I hope so...well I've arranged a meeting with your mum for Friday as I'm sure she's told you."
I shrug "News to me."
"Alright then off you pop."
This is perfect! My parents are going to meet!!!!!!!!!!
As I'm walking down the hall on my way to last period I hear an announcement on the speaker.
"Can Ariana Wright please report to the headmasters office."
I do as I'm told. When I get there I see my mum sat with Mr Dermott, the headteacher. Mum glares at me.
"Take a seat Miss Wright." I do.
"Now I know you were sick on Wednesday and went home early." I nod "and then you didn't attend Thursday or Friday." I nod again
"Peculiar thing Ari, I'm pretty sure I sent you to school on Friday and I never rang up school." Mum says.
"I...uh.."
The bell for end of school rings.
"Miss Wright if you did not wish to attend school you should have mentioned it to your mother. Due to your actions I have no choice but to put you on punctuality report."
I act shocked but to be honest that's an okay punishment. At least I wasn't sentenced to 2 weeks of detentions.
"That is all. You may both leave."
Neither of us say anything to the car but as soon as we are out of schools sight she starts.
"What on EARTH were you thinking Ari? Skipping school and what we're do you doing for 7 hours anyway? Were you alone? Were you with a boy? You're changing I swear and I've got an appointment with your English teacher on Friday because you're not working hard enough!"
She pretty much nagged me the whole day. But all I could think about was
Friday.
