Y/N

When I walked through East Highland High School doors, I instantly felt exhilaration bubble inside of me. I finally did it. I got away from all the toxicity my former school offered, albeit it took me a whole year to figure out, but I did.

I was so caught up with my excitement that I didn't even realize someone was about to walk to me. Before I could do anything to stop our collision, our bodies slammed into each other. I felt strong but small hands grasp my shoulders. As I shook my head, trying to rid a bit of the pain that radiated from our fall, I saw her

For the first time since literally body slamming her, I saw her. Whoever she is, she's gorgeous. Her brown eyes stared at my own, and I had a hard time staying still as she stared right into my soul. I realized that we were still on the ground, so I lifted her along with myself.

I was about to apologize when a large guy harshly grabbed her arm. I was about to argue with him, but he was easily a few inches taller than me, and I didn't want to get into trouble on my first day. My mom didn't deserve all that stress. Plus, his glare sent shivers down my spine. Again, I was about to apologize when he shook his head and simply said, "Watch where you're going."

With that, he left with the pretty brown-eyed girl. Man, it hasn't even been a full hour, and I'm already crushing on somebody. I can't help it, though; she's stunning. I was about to walk away when I heard someone else speak up,

"I won't take it personally. Nate's kind of an asshole." I turned around and saw a blonde girl speaking. She had her hair up in a complicated updo that I didn't want to think about how she even did that. Her clothes were really colorful. She looked like she came out of an anime show. I quickly extended my hand as I realized I was staring for way too long.

"Uhm, sorry for staring." I scratched the back of my head nervously before I extended my hand to her. "I am Y/N Lopez." She gently shook my hand as she nodded her head.

"I don't mind the staring. People do it all the time," she bowed her head down and gestured to her outfit before she raised her head back up. "I have no idea why, though." We both laughed at her little display.

"I am Jules. Jules Vaughn. Guess you're new here? I could like help you around if you want." I immediately nodded my head. It would help to get to know someone. This was my first day and all and the middle of the year.

"That would seriously help me out a lot. Thanks, Jules."

"You're welcome! You'll love my friends. I feel like you'll really get along with Rue especially."

Finally, my classes were over. I walked to the parking lot and spotted my beat-up 1966 Mustang. Before long, a light drizzle started pouring down. I ran to my car and immediately got in. I stared at East Highland one last time for today and drove off.

I was about to take a turn, but I spotted a familiar brunette angrily getting out of a silver pick-up. The car didn't even wait until the brunette walked far before it drove off.

"Asshole," I muttered to myself. I silently watched the brunette for a couple of minutes before I shook my head. I was watching her like a creep. I might as well ask her if she needed a ride.

I slowly drove up to her before I brought my window down. "Hey, I was the girl who ran into you earlier. I just couldn't watch you walk in the rain. Do you- uh, need a ride or something? I swear I don't mean anything bad. I just felt like you maybe needed it."

The girl looked at me, like she really looked at me. It took her about a minute before she spoke up.

"My boyfriend's going to kill you if you do anything to me." She said with a threatening look, but soon her gaze softened as she spoke again. "But thanks. I do need a ride. It's Maddy, by the way."

Maddy. So that was her name. I let the name sit on my tongue as I repeated it back to her unconsciously.

"What? Your name's Maddy too?" Maddy giggled as she got in the passenger seat.

I laughed along with her as I took both my hands on the steering wheel. "Sorry, no. I just wondered what your name was. Jules, I am assuming you know her, talked about you, but for some reason didn't use your name."

Maddy laughed again as she shook her head. "Probably because we call each other bitch instead."

I nodded my head as I started to drive off. I was about to say something, but Maddy interrupted me. "Sorry about your seats. I got them all wet."

"It's fine. Don't worry about it. I'm just sorry about what happened. You know, with however it was driving that pick-up."

Maddy laughed again and said, "Yeah. Sucks, but it's whatever. By the way, I never got your name."

"Oh, right. Sorry. It's Y/N Lopez."

"All good. Nice to meet you. Just take a right here." Maddy said as she pointed to the right turn.

I followed her instructions, and soon we were at the front of her house. "Thanks for the ride, Lopez," Maddy said as she turned to look at me as she placed her hand on the door hinge of my car.

I nodded my head and said, "Anytime." Maddy smiled at me and she was about to get out, but stopped and turned to me.

"I'm not used to not having to jump. You know, when getting out of the car. Nate, my boyfriend's car, sometimes feels like a fucking truck. I have to say, though. I kinda like yours more. Anyways, gotta go. Thanks again, Y/N." And with that Maddy finally left my car and ran to her house. Her hands-on was on the top of her head as she desperately tried to shelter herself from the pouring rain.

I looked at Maddy one last time and watched as she disappeared into her house. As I drove back to mine, I couldn't help the smile that appeared on my face.
