It was Sunday morning, I quickly ran to the bathroom to take my bath, cause I don't wanna be late for my last service at our church, although I hate going to church not that I'm not a believer but ever since my mom died I feel unattached toward the activities carried out in church.
My dad always wakes up early every Sunday morning, even earlier than the morning bird.
He hates it whenever I feel relentless and want to stay at home or sometimes I fake sickness and stay at home.
But today was different, I woke earlier than him, and I rush to take my bath as I wait for him to do so.
While waiting, I was with my phone trying to log in to my WhatsApp but it seems to be out of date, I have to wait as I update it.
I quickly rush to get a pen and my poem book as I just had an idea of the poem to write about next. But that isn't my focus now cos I got a service to attend.
There are rules in our house that "NO BREAKFAST BEFORE SUNDAY SERVICE", so I have kinda get used to it since we are spending not less than 2hrs in church.
My dad drove us to and fro from church. As we came back, I rush to my room to start arranging my stuff for school tomorrow, I have gotten another new black hoodie, this time with the write-up "Loner" and "a smiley-face emoji 😊", it's kinda absurd cos loneliness and smiling shouldn't be anyway related, the two contradict each other but I'm not the manufacturer so IDGAF.
On Monday morning at 7 am, My dad has already prepared to drive me to college after I had received close to 30mins of Advise from different angles from him and we ended it with our usual morning devotion prayers.
Before then, Uncle Martins, my Favorite uncle and my only true friend send me a text message saying:
'Have a nice and save ride to school and always be the good boy you are, remember to come visiting during breaks and holidays, and don't forget to reach me if you are lacking a thing.'
It was approximately 6 hours 30 minutes drive from LA to Berkeley, I felt exhausted due to over excitement of leaving home, I could have used these hours wasted to finish two to three movies.
It was a long ride but we finally reach there on time, my dad and I get to my hostel and we unpack my stuff before he said farewell I remember him saying "Be friendly" and Always read your books.
I was pissed off when I heard the word 'Be friendly' should it sound like a reminder that I'm friendless or what.? But the latter sound ridiculous cause how would someone like my dad who knows how much I study a day be reminding me of that.
After unpacking, I get to meet my roommates.
"Hi, I'm Jack, I'm in my fourth year, and welcome to college," the first boy said.
He was tall like me but fair in complexion, he has a huge body like that of a ruby player, I presume he does play.
"Freshman Freshman, I will show you around campus," The other boy who was fully focused on his laptop said as he extend his hand to shake me.
I return the pleasantries afterward.
"My name is Khalid and nice meeting you guys," I said.
The first boy who greeted me was Jack Anderson, He is a handsome guy with a dark full afro haircut, he has snub-nosed and bug-eyed with a pinky lip.
=== Freshmen Welcome ===
Our school was always fond of the habit of organizing a freshmen welcome party across all faculty with a little speech of orientation from the Chancellor.
"Let us acknowledge and accept a fundamental truth: Y'all are blessed and honored to be in this great institution," Our Chancellor said in her remarks.
"Many long to see this day but just a few of you are chosen. We welcome y'all with open arms as a new dawn begins in each of your lives, may y'all be strengthened by the grace of God to see the light at the end. Do well to make you, your parent, and the university proud and abide by the school's rules and regulations" She added.
After the straight-forward speech by her, I got bored and take a walk down the hallway just then I notice a soft touch on my back, behold it's........
