The garden is quiet. Spider’s eyes open to see the dying greens with a blinding light to his side. He feels weightless and calm as if nothing could hurt him.
“Rest now, my friend,” A male voice whispers to him, “You took quite the beating.”
“What are you talking about?” Spider tries looking at or even past the light, though he can’t see much, “Where am I?”
“You’re home,” The light begins to fade away, “You’re safe.”
“Hey, wait!” Spider calls, but in a blink, the light is gone, and he is on a bed, “What the hell?”
His eyes adjust as the light fades. He can finally look around his surroundings. He sees he is on a bed in a wooded area. The bed is soft with vines all around it. There are blooming flowers that surround a narrow path into the garden. They are bright pink with a trim of gold on the ends of the petals. Spider stands and decides to follow them. More and more seem to burst with life the farther he goes. Just at the end of the path, he gets a sense of deja vu. Bloody feathers in a pile, the sobbing of a young man, and his heart pounding in his chest. He takes yet another step forward and hears a crunch. When he looks down, there is a white mask covered in blood.
“Spider!” The voice coos, but it sounds saddened, “Spider, wake up, please. I need you.”
Spider wakes up once again, though he keeps his eye closed. There is a bright light burning through his eyelids.
He feels someone holding him, their hands over his heart.
“Did it work?” The female voice speaks again.
“I don’t know. It’s been a while since I’ve used a miracle,” Luke’s voice comes from above him, “But he is breathing.”
Luke readjusts him to lay Spider’s head onto his lap.
“Well, that’s good, now what just happened,” The lady demands.
“As if I know! I haven’t mixed myself up with the divine in centuries,” Luke snaps back, “All I know is a bright light saved my friend.”
Spider feels the hands over his heart move once more to fix his displaced hair. He decides to open his eyes.
Luke is looking right back at him when he does. Spider smiles and puts a hand on Luke’s cheek.
“Hey, Healer boy,” Spider whispers, “How’s it going?”
“It’s much better now that you’re here, dork,” Luke chuckles.
The girl steps back, unsure if she should bother them about Sir’s disappearance. Spider sits up, and feeling a slight tingle in his skull, he checks for injury. Luke moves Spider’s hand away.
“Come on, we’ve got a lot to talk about,” Luke smiles and begins helping him up.
“Yeah, I guess we do,” Spider looks at the girl, “Who is she?”
“Cassie. I’m Cassie,” She leans on the tree, the shadow it casts making it hard to see her face.
“Oh, nice to meet you,” Spider says, “May I ask why you’re here?”
“She’s here to help. Come on, we’ll explain when we’re in private,” Luke motions her to them and leads the way into the bar.
Spider looks back at Cassie. She notices and waves.
