Memories

Stephanie's pov

"Well, I guess this is where we say goodbye T'challa."

I turn to face him holding out my hand. He shakes it.

"It's been nice getting to know you and helping you get used to your powers Stephanie. I hope we meet again soon."

I nod my head. I know that I have to go back but at the same time, it's nerve-wracking. I hope that Steve can help me.

I take a deep breath and head over to where Steve is waiting near the helicarrier.

As I walk in his direction a smile spreads across my face. It's been at least three months since I've seen Steve.

''Steve"

"Stephanie"

He envelopes me in a big hug pulling me close. I wrap my arms around him. I never realized how much I needed this till now.

"How is he?'' I whisper

He pulls back, gripping my shoulders with his hands. I look into his light blue eyes.

"He's doing ok Steph. Tony figured out how to get hydra out of his head but he still gets nightmares."

"That's good... does he remember anything about me...?''

I watch his blue eyes, filled with sadness and that's all I need to see to know that Bucky doesn't remember me.

"I'm sorry Stephanie"

I look down as I feel tears prick my eyes. I take a deep shaky breath, pick my head back up and push past Steve.

I walk up the ramp of the Helicarrier, deciding to sit in the back instead of next to Steve while he flies.

I walk to the back and sit down with a sigh, hearing Steve's footsteps as he walks in.

"You ready?"

He asks as he pushes a button that makes the ramp on the Helicarrier fold up.

"Is it bad if I say no?''

I ask, looking away. I watch out of the corner of my eye as he makes his way over to me.

"Steph looks at me, please I know that it's going to be hard for you to go back... Tony tried to help Bucky get his memories ba-"

I cut him off before he could finish his sentence.

"We should get heading back Steve."

I say not meeting his eyes. I hear him sigh and walk away before I know it we are in the air. The silence soon makes me drift off to sleep.

1943

"So are you excited about being a sergeant Mr. Barns?"

I ask turning around to face him and walking backward. Steve is walking ahead of us we're going to a local bar in town.

"Why, yes Mrs. Lake. I am"

He says grinning, I feel my heart speed up and I smile back, turning back around as my cheeks turn bright red. His grin always makes me go crazy.

We walk to the bar and find a place to sit. Steve goes and orders drinks for us.

I sit next to Bucks on the left side of the small round table. The bar is crowded like usual. Before my brother was drafted, Steve, Bucky, Ethan, and I came here together all the time. But now it's just us.

"so... you're leaving tomorrow?"

I ask looking into his steel-blue eyes.

"Yea but you'll have Steve so let's not dwell on it ok?"

I nod my head as Steve walks over to us with our drinks.

"So you guys ready for the Stark expo tonight?"

Steve asks as he looks at the both of us but his eyes linger on me. I know Steve likes me it's obvious, but to me, he's just a friend.

"Yea."

I say taking a sip of my drink. We all know he just wants to enlist again, Bucky and I know they'll never let him join but he never gives up. Though I don't blame him for wanting to help his country I tried once but never got in but Steve convinced me to try again.

Later that day we were walking through a big crowd. The Stark Expo is a big deal. Howard Stark, owner of Stark Industries puts one on every year to show us his inventions for the future. This will be my first time going without Ethan.

"Come on Bucky!"

Without thinking I grab his hand. I go to pull my hand away but he tightens his grip, I look up at him and he's looking back. I look down at our hands which are intertwined, everything seems to slow down as he pulls me closer. I can feel my heart speed up, he takes his other hand and grips my chin tilting my head up, and our eyes lock.

He leans closer and I feel his breath fan across my face, my eyes flutter closed as our lips meet. I rest my other hand against his chest. His kiss is slow and soft. I can feel his heartbeat under my hand. He pulls away looking into my eyes and I look back breathless.

"Y-you just..."

"I did."

He says smiling softly.
