Steve’s pov
I stand in a room full of people I've been lying to for years. I sit at the long wooden table that runs down the middle of the room. Leaning back against the chair I feel the plastic against my back. I listen to the group as Rhodes and Ross start talking.
“Still no word from Vision?”
“Satellites lost him somewhere over Edinburgh.”
“On a stolen quinjet with four of the world’s most wanted criminals.”
“You know they’re only criminals because you’ve chosen to call them that, right, sir?”
“My God, Rhodes, your talent for horseshit rivals my own.”
“If it weren’t for those Accords, Vision would’ve been right here.”
“I remember your signature on those papers, Colonel.”
“That’s right. And I’m pretty sure I’ve paid for that.”
“You have second thoughts?”
“Not anymore.”
I slowly stand up out of my seat and face Ross as everyone in the room watches me. I walk over to him as Natasha keeps her eyes on me. Luckily everything is going according to plan “Hopefully it stays that way…” I think to myself.
“Mr. Secretary."
“You got some nerve. I’ll give you that.”
Natasha steps forward quickly without hesitation, I step back so she has a clear view of Ross when she speaks. I'm relieved at the words that come out of her mouth.
“You could use some of that right now.”
“The worlds on fire. And you think, all is forgiven?”
"No, and I’m way past asking for permission. Earth just lost her best defender. So we’re here to fight. And if you wanna stand in our way… We’ll fight you, too."
I look around the room at everyone and they nod slowly. They were surprised at my tone, sharp and angry but at this point, I’m sick of it all and I can’t let someone I don’t know steal my Captain America legacy.

Steves pov
After finding out that Bucky had been captured by Hydra, Stephanie and I deserted our post and now we're on a helicopter. I sit across from her and Peggy. When we get there we are going to be right on the Hydra base's doorstep.
Stephanie's brown eyes are hard as she stares at the space next to me. The only thing penetrating the silence is the noise of the helicopter propellers. She grips her blue and silver shield tightly in her left hand, the fabric of her suit stretching slightly as she tightens and relaxes her arms; this is something she does when she's stressed.
“Steph…?”
The man flying the helicopter turns to look at us nodding. Stephanie and I both stand up at the same time. She turns to me and looks right into my eyes.
"Ready?"
Without waiting for my answer she walks over to the open hatch on the plane where a rope dangles. I'm right behind her as she jumps down grabbing the rope, sliding to the ground.
We pull guns from holsters around our waist. When we break down the reinforced door we are met with an onslaught of Hydra soldiers.
"Split up!"
We run in opposite directions. I take the right going down a dark or barely lit passageway. Fighting soldiers at every turn, eventually I made my way into a secluded room. Then someone steps out from the darkness.
