Chapter 41 - Tasks before the Trip

At lunchtime, Ms. Kawakami called me to the student guidance office. So, I went to see what she needed.

"Sorry to pull you out of class, but it's about Takase-kun's guardians..."

"Yeah?" I said.

"I told them... that I'm not going to pay them anymore money!" she said before smiling. "I'm quitting my part-time job too! Although I'm still in talks with my boss about it."

This made me smile that she told them no more. and that she'd focus on teaching. That was until his guardians came in angry she decided not to pay them anymore. The lady looked at me annoyed.

"Tch, him again?" the woman said snidely.

"You know it, lady." I said with a slight glare.

"How rude..."

'Your rude.' I thought.

"I guess a student is only as good as his teacher." she said.

I toned her out till they threatened to tell the school about Ms. Kawakami's night job. She gave in and said she's pay them, they left thinking they were victorious over her. I growled at them.

"Ren?" she said.

"You can't give up Ms. Kawakami, what are their names?" I asked.

"The husband is Toshio-san... and his wife is Hiromi-san... Wait, why? You don't intend on doing something, do you?" she asked shocked. "Please don't. A Shujin teacher asking the Phantom Thieves for help would be..."

"Just trust me. Your my teacher and I can't stand to see this type of injustice towards you. No one else will know that you need the help of the Phantom Thieves." I said.

We talked a little while more. I decided today is a Mementos trip day. We went to the hideout and saw Futaba on her laptop already waiting for us. Yusuke was there as well.

"There you guys are..." she said smiling.

"Futaba! Did you come here by yourself?" Ann asked surprised.

"I went to get her since I got out of school early." he stated.

"What a patronizing Inari."

We began talking about the case but Ryuji doesn't seem to be caring about what he's saying. When Ryuji said after we get the culprit to confess is we should reveal our identities. I growled lowly clearly annoyed at the fame going to some of my friends heads. Ryuji shut up as they all looked at me.

"You okay Ren?" Ann asked.

"Will you quit thinking about fame right now?" I said. "We have more important things to worry about."

"Anyway, isn't the older Nijima sister investigating the case?" Morgana asked.

"Yes... I can try to pry and ask about it. But she'll just tell me to mind my own business and get angry with me." Ninjima said with a sigh.

"If you can't ask her, wanna just extract that data?" Futaba asked reaching into her pocket. "Does she have a personal laptop or something?"

"Don't tell me..."

I can lend you a storage device with my special gimmick on it." Futaba said holding up a USB stick. "Just stick this baby in, and it'll clone the internal hard drive! It'll even bypass the OS password!"

After a bit of convincing, Makoto agreed to do it and took the USB stick from Futaba. We couldn't go to Mementos today and it bugs me that we couldn't go yet. I got back and talked with Sojiro. Futaba came in with her phone. Futaba got into her uncle's banking history in case he tried to take custody of her again. Sojiro did scold her but reassured her that her uncle isn't going to take custody of her again. But things didn't exactly go well, she thought he didn't want her anymore. I felt bad.
