Chapter 49 - Confidants Part 2

I went to Iwai's shop and talked to him. He wanted me to do an escort task, something only he could trust me to do. I agreed to help.

"The person you'll be escorting... is Kaoru. Get dinner with him at the diner in Shibuya. Now, go. I gotta take care of some business with Tsuda." Iwai said.

"Alright then."

I later met up with Kaoru and we went to the diner. He seemed worried as he waited for Iwai.

"My dad's really late, huh... He's the one who asked us here too." Kaoru said.

"Don't worry, he'll be here soon." I said.

"Right." he said. You know, it's pretty rare for him to invite people out like this. He must see something in you, Amamiya-san. I doubt he'd actually admit it though..."

"That's alright, not everyone can convey things easily through words. Some do so through actions." I said.

"...." He went quiet. "By the way, um... has he said anything to you? About me... weighing him down?"

"Now why would he say something like that?" I asked.

"...To be honest, he's been acting super weird recently." Kaoru said. "More than anything, he seems stressed out. I've even heard him mentioning my name on the phone a few times. But then every time I've gone to ask him about it, he's told me there's nothing to worry about."

He was worried that the fact Iwai was not his real dad, that he wasn't important to Iwai. I reassured him that Iwai does consider him family. He even told me about the gecko tattoo on Iwai's neck, Kaoru had a scar on him that was similar in shape and Iwai had told him it would be their family crest. I smiled thinking how nice that was. Especially since the gecko represents protecting one's home and family. Soon Iwai walked over.

"...Yo, sorry for the holdup." Iwai said. "You two look like you're havin' fun. What've you been talkin' about?"

"That's a secret." I said with a grin.

"Huh... Looks like you two're gettin' along pretty well then." Iwai said with a slight smile. "Anyways, I can't stay long. I've got errands I need to take care of. Figured it'd be nicer to at least drop by instead of tell you over the phone."

"What errands?" Kaoru asked. "...Or can you not tell me?"

"What's thar s'posed to mean?" Iwai asked. "It's just work stuff. Ain't that right?"

Iwai looked at me.

"You should buy us something before you go." I said smiling.

"Hey, that's not a bad idea." Iwai stated. "Order anythin' you want. It's on me!"

"O-Okay..." Kaoru said.

Iwai told me that he'd be meeting up with the guy who talked about that deal. He'll tell me about later. After that, I went home. Tomorrow, I'll ask my personas about Shadeon to see how he's doing. The next morning, I asked my personas about Shadeon. He's doing better and on the 4th, we can send out the calling card. That day I hung out with Futaba again we watched a movie she wanted to see, I think Futaba was still worried about me. I could tell they all were worried about me.

That night I met up with Chihaya.

"Recently, my reputation has started shooting up. A lot of my clients leave happy now too! I even managed to use my own powers to alter some fates that had once seemed inevitable!" She said happily.

"That's great to hear." I said smiling.

"I suppose all you really need to change fate is a strong will, like what you have. I wish I could do more though..." she said
