-Leo-
After catching up with Rena about the night before while taking in some sun on the balcony, Leo checked the time on his phone. It was slowly approaching noon, meaning he had to get on with the rest of his Sunday.
"Although, I would love nothing more than to turn this morning into a boozy brunch with some mimosas, I have to head in to The Diner." Leo said as he dusted some crumbs off his jeans and stood up from his chair.
"Noooo, what am I going to do all day long while you're at work!?" Rena dramatically grasped his hand, looking up at him with the largest puppy eyes she could manage. "Just call Joe and tell him...you had a family emergency!"
"You know I need the money, babe. Otherwise, I'd be forced to take Joe up on his offer to be his sugar baby."
The two friends shuddered at the thought. Leo's lecherous boss and the owner of The Diner, Joseph Raisman, was a baby-boomer Elon Musk wannabe. He was a serial startup entrepreneur and his latest endeavor was to "become a disrupter in the diner industry". Leo couldn't help but roll his eyes whenever he heard it during staff meetings. Joe drove a white Tesla SUV and owned a super modern penthouse condo in the fancy north end of town.
The only accessory he was missing was a pretty young thing to flaunt around town. And the only thing Leo was missing when Joe propositioned him with a firm squeeze of his ass was another job opportunity.
Shaking her hand off, he responded in a saccharine tone, "You are more than welcome to stay here while I'm gone. Just don't eat all of my food. And if you feel like cleaning a little, even better"
"I was going to stay here regardless of if you said I could or not soooo yeah. And I'm definitely not cleaning anything. Nice try though," she got up from the chair, stretched, and walked back inside the house from the patio.
"Little Brat"
"I heard that!" She yelled back from somewhere inside.
Leo cleaned off the small table and pushed the chairs back under it. "Damn, she has hearing like a bat"
"I heard that too! Keep my name out ya mouth, B!"
Leo laughed to himself as he stepped back into his apartment and closed the sliding balcony door.
Rena was now sitting on the couch eating both a breakfast sandwich and a danish. Duel wielding her food like paladin out to brunch.
"I lit-trally told you not to eat all my food!"
"And I lit-trally told you I wouldn't be listening to your instructions," she said, imitating him.
Leo sighed deeply. "I don't even get where all that food goes. You would have been a shoo-in for a member of the Lollipop Guild"
"You know what?...I'll take that as a compliment to my acting skills, even though we both know it wasn't"
"Glad that we're on the same page. I've gotta get ready for my shift," he said as he walked towards the back half of his apartment and into the bathroom.
He picked up his toothbrush, which he now realized he needed to replace. It looked like it got into a fight with his molars, and lost. Reaching into his medicine cabinet behind the mirror, Leo grabbed his toothpaste and squeezed out a healthy portion of his whitening toothpaste onto the bristles of the toothbrush. He didn't think the whitening actually did anything, but he figured it couldn't hurt. He began brushing his teeth as he stared into the mirror at himself.
He definitely looked hungover, that's for sure. But he was beginning to forget what he looked like when he wasn't hungover. He noticed the bags under his eyes and the dull look of his skin. He took a moment to appreciate his freckles for giving him a cuteness. I'm really getting too old for all this running around. Sighing, he spit and rinsed his mouth out, then turned to the shower to turn it on. He loved the water to be scalding hot when he showered. It made him feel like it could melt away any of the mistakes or troubles from the night before, leaving him with a fresh, unmarred future. Once the water was hot enough and the bathroom was filled with a healthy dose of steam, he stripped out of his filthy clothes from yesterday. He opened the bathroom door a crack and tossed them into the laundry basket just outside the bathroom door.
Unfortunately, at that moment Rena was walking by the door and peeked in like the creep she was. "Damnn girl, you thicka than a milkshake!"
"Oh my god, I hate you!" Leo yelled as he slammed the door in her face.
He immediately climbed into the shower and began the process of getting clean. Rena loved making comments like that about him. He's always been a bigger guy, but he loved every round inch of himself and never let his size hold him back. Sometimes it was an issue when hooking up with guys, with some gays specifying "No fatties" on Grindr. But he never let it bother him and just avoided assholes like that.
Leo rinsed out his hair from his conditioner, then started to wash with his body wash before rinsing, turning off the water and hopping out of the shower. He felt rejuvenated after his shower and began his beauty routine. He put his curl cream into his hair being careful not to disturb the curls before they were dry. Then was sure to use his toner, serum, eye cream, moisturizer, and sunscreen on his face. He was 30 now, and he knew he needed to take better care of himself. The easiest step had seemed to be skincare, so he started off with that. But the way his bank account was set up, everything was from the clearance section.
With his beauty regime complete, he wrapped his towel around himself and headed to the spare room he used as a closet. He opened the door and let out an enormous sigh at the mess. The room started out as a guest room and over the years that he had lived there, more and more clothes were stored there. At this point, the entire bed was covered in clothing, as well as a small loveseat filled with shoes, the closet was bursting with coats and jackets, and two clothing racks were at capacity.
Leo loved anything fashion and spent a lot of time and money, at thrift and consignment shops, digging for his definition of buried treasure. Vintage luxury labels and unique finds were as valuable as gold to Leo. He easily picked out a pair of black pants and a black button-up shirt that was his uniform as a server at The Diner. It might have been chaos, but it was an organized chaos. He knew exactly where everything was, sorta.
He didn't mind his job at The Diner. He had started working there 4 years ago when it was still Albany Avenue Diner, before the lovely Greek couple that ran it sold it 6 months ago. Joe had changed the small family diner around completely. They now served "elevated diner fare" whatever the hell that was. All Leo knew was the interior that was once cozy and warm was now sleek with everything black and silver. They no longer served classic diner food like gyros, and they now took reservations. It was always painful when someone came to visit for the first time in a while and they were totally confused.
Leo got dressed, first sliding on a pair of dark gray boxer briefs, followed by his black pants and button-up shirt. He walked out of the room and closed the door behind him before heading back to the living room while buttoning up his shirt. He checked his phone and saw that he needed to leave for his 1pm shift within the next 5 minutes. Rena was still on the couch, but now she was watching some farming industry documentary.
"I'm heading out, but I'll be back around 10. Let me know if you want me to bring anything back for you." Leo walked towards his front door. Grabbing his phone, keys, and wallet from the kitchen island.
"Yeah, I'll text you. Love you."
"Love you too, bye," with that, Leo closed and locked his door.
