-Darren-

After Darren recounted the juicy details of the previous night with Giddeon, the two agreed to venture out of their apartment for a late lunch. Without a destination in mind, the two men walked out of their apartment building into the great unknown. The sun was high in the sky and comfortable for a leisurely walk through the small city.

"How're you feeling now, buddy?" Giddeon said, patting his tall friend on the back.

The two had just stopped for a couple of iced coffees at a stand in the park and were heading towards the park exit.

Darren excitedly slurped on a mocha frappe, extra whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles, with a red striped straw looking like a pleased little kid. He simply shook his head up and down, swallowed, then said, "Yup".

Giddeon took a sip of his black coffee, one sugar and said, "Good, now all you need to do is keep —"

Giddeon stopped walking and paused abruptly, attracting Darren's attention away from his sweet caffeinated treat. "Keep what dude?"

"Curly?!"

"Ugh, don't bring him up." Darren rolled his eyes before he followed the path of Giddeon's gaze to the large windows of a restaurant across the street.

The scene inside would have gone viral in minutes, with a title like "Karen Goes Wild on Diner Server". And Darren would have shared it too if it wasn't for the fact that he recognized the poor server. It was Leo, getting his ass handed to him by a blonde that was pretty, but the situation looked anything but.

Both Darren and Giddeon looked on in horror as she got physical by jabbing Leo repeatedly in the chest. Darren couldn't get over how calm Leo looked in the situation, but he had to step in before things got ugly, well uglier.

Darren tossed his half drunken frappe in a trash can beside him on the sidewalk, looked both ways, and darted across the street towards the diner.

"Ugh, Darren no! Don't you dare involve yourself in that Maury rerun!" Giddeon said before he chugged the rest of his coffee, tossed the empty cup into the trash can, and followed Darren across the street into the diner.

Inside the Diner it was mass mayhem. The employees of the diner looked on from the bar like it was a free show.

'I'm surprised they don't have popcorn' Darren thought to himself as he walked towards the eye of the storm. Towards the back of the restaurant next to the windows, he watched as the blonde woman grabbed Leo aggressively by the collar and shook him as she yelled.

"My name is fucking Candace. And I'm going to make sure you remember!"

"Huh, I would have thought her name was Karen," Giddeon said from behind him.

Darren ran towards the two and wedged his arm in front of Leo's face, shielding him from the incoming slap.

Candace's eyes went wide at the addition of Darren into the mix.

Once she heard his baritone voice diffuse the situation further with, "Maybe you should take your hands off of him miss"

She immediately cooled down, her mind raced trying to figure out how she had gotten so upset so quickly. Realizing she was still clutching Leo's collar in her fist, she removed her hand, while attempting to flatten out the wrinkles she had introduced to his shirt.

"I am so sorry. I don't know what came over me." Candace said apologetically. Maybe all those conversations with her mom's friends had gotten her worried about settling down with a nice man and popping out some babies. This was going to be a fun conversation with her therapist for the week.

Leo looked on in shock as Candace scooted back over to her friends, with her head down in shame. Finally, one of his coworkers got involved in the situation instead of sitting back and watching the drama unfold. One of the other servers, Nate, went over to the table to get the group of Candace and her companions heading out of the restaurant as quickly as possible.

Darren looked down as he heard Leo say, "Uh, thanks a lot for that."

"Yeah, no problem..." Darren said as he grabbed the back of his neck. He was trying to work up the nerve to ask his next question. He could do this!

"I know we didn't get the best start this morning, but would you want to meet up for a coffee sometime?"

It surprised Leo that Darren wanted anything to do with him. He had literally run away from him that morning. His immediate reflex was to say no, and that's almost how he answered the handsome man in front of him. But he looked up into his kind, hopeful brown eyes and remembered what Rena had said this morning. Leo decided to stop running away from tall, hot guys that bought him food.

"That would be really great, actually," Leo answered.

Darren's optimistic expression grew into a radiant smile. "Let's exchange numbers and I'll text you a day that works." He took his phone out of his back pocket and Leo did the same with his.

Taking his phone out of his pocket, he saw he had 5 missed calls, all from the same number. Before he could investigate further, his phone rang again.

"Uh Darren, excuse me for a sec. I need to take this."
