I grunted as I was blasted across the training field. Bakugo sneered at me from above as I tried to get up. With the amount of effort that it took for me to pull myself back up, my injury was beginning to burn causing me to falter a bit. I ignored it, hoping that the adrenaline would kick in soon. "Pathetic."
Bakugo growled, making his way closer to me. Agreeing that I wouldn't use my control quirk on him this time, my options were limited, and my throat was already getting sore. "Come on freak, show me what you've got."
Bakugo taunts. Clenching my fists I scowled at him, letting my power build up in my throat. I charged at him and released a sonic wave that hit him straight in the gut and somehow sent him flying over the training field's borders. Everyone uncovered their ears now that the use of my quirk was over and looked over in surprise. Throughout the whole training session Bakugo had been unbeatable until just now. My shoulders were hunched as I panted heavily, the anger that I had felt from before slowly fading away. My eyes widened in shock. Bakugo lay there on the packed dirt, out cold. But instead of Bakugo laying there, all I could see was the Serpent that I had shot, the blood pooling out from under him, his eyes white. "Akira, Akira!"
Firm hands gripped my shoulders, shaking me slightly. I lifted my head slowly, the thought of the Serpent still haunting my mind. "Akira are you ok dude...?"
Blonde hair, bright yellow eyes, it was Denki. I stared at him, dazed, but somehow managed to reply, "Yeah I'm fine, don't worry about it."
I sharply shrugged his hands off of my shoulders and began to walk away. I instantly regretted it as his hurt expression caught my gaze. Why do I feel so bad? Why do I feel so much guilt? Maybe Bakugo was right? Maybe I am just a monster..." Angry tears were building up in my eyes, embarrassed I stormed off, ignoring Aizawa's calls to come back.
I found a quiet and secluded spot near the training field, an empty grassy area filled with weeds. I plopped myself down on the ground and pulled my knees to my chest. I don't know why all of this is bothering me so much, I used to never feel any of whatever these feelings are before coming here. I feel weak. I feel pathetic, and honestly if I told my father he would probably think the same. You can't focus on your goal if you're distracted by feelings and emotions. Blocking them out is the only way that you can become stronger.
I was so focused on my thoughts that I fell over, startled, as a voice piped in, seemingly out of nowhere, "So whatcha thinking about, hm?''
Kaminari towered over me with a small smile on his face. I pulled myself back up and shook some strands of grass out of my hair, getting a laugh out of Kaminari. He plops down next to me, staring forward. "He's going to be ok, he just woke up and Aizawa sent him over to Recovery Girl, wellll more like forced him into going but you know how he is haha.."
I stiffen my back, my expression blank as I reply, "Good."
He turned his head to smile at me but I didn't return the look. Denki sighed deeply, "Well it's time for lunch so we should get going, also you still have a piece of grass in your hair." He gives a small chuckle before plucking the piece of grass out of my hair and tossing it back onto the ground. "Come on, let's go join the others."
He offers me his hand which I just stare at, not sure whether or not I should accept his help. Eventually I grabbed onto it and he helped pull me back up. I lock eyes with him. Mine were filled with doubt and suspicion while his were bright and genuine. 'Why is he being so nice to me?' Realizing I've been staring for too long I let go of his hand and begin to walk away, my cheeks tinted pink. "Hey! Don't leave me behind!"
He whines from behind me. Smirking, I turn around and shoot him a snarky response, "Try to keep up then."
and then I just bolt towards the cafeteria entrance doors. I burst through them, getting a few weird looks from other students who were previously enjoying their lunches. Denki arrives shortly after, panting heavily, "How-are-you-so-fast-"
He chokes out, bending over, exhausted. My face is smug. "How're you so slow? You're like an old man."
He furrowed his eyebrows at me, "Hey! I am no old man!"
He shouts defensively. I roll my eyes, a small smile playing on my lips. "Whatever you say grandpa."
I remark before walking off to the squad's table. Without even looking I can tell that he's already fuming over my snarky remarks, which just makes me smile even more. I wave at Mina and Kiri, who have already gotten their lunches and started eating. They wave back and Mine smiles, bouncing excitedly. "I didn't know how strong you were Akira-Chan! Your quirk is so cool!"
She exclaimed excitedly. Kirishima nods in agreement, "That was pretty impressive, no one's been able to beat Bakugo like that before."
He flashes me a toothy grin. I laugh slightly. "Thanks guys..."
I pull out a chair and take a seat. Denki makes his way over and pulls out a chair as well. He slumps down into it and groans exaggeratedly. Such a drama queen. Mina gives him a weird look while I steal a pudding from Kirishima's plate. "What's up with him?"
Mina asks, looking him over. "Hm?"
I ask, currently caught up in an arm wrestling match with Kirishima for the pudding. Mina rolls her eyes like it should be obvious. "Denki, he looks like he just got hit by a truck."
Denki shoots me a playfully agitated look and crosses his arms across his chest. "Akira made me run here and nearly made me die in the process just trying to keep up."
I snort and start to peel back the cover for the pudding, having finally won the arm wrestle match with Kiri. "He's just mad because I'm faster than him and he runs like an old man."
I say, mouth full of pudding. Mina lets out a loud laugh and Kirishima snickers. Denki's pout deepens, "Hey! It's not funny! They just caught me off my game today, I could totally beat them in a race no- a quirk battle, I would beat their ass!"
Mina and I snort loudly in disbelief, "Yeah in your dreams pretty boy."
I retort while finishing off the last of the pudding. Denki smirks and scooches closer to the table. "Want to test that theory?"
He taunts. I scoot closer as well and lean my elbows onto the table, my face inches away from his. A satisfied feeling runs through me as he gulps, looking like he's regretting his life choices. I return his smirk from earlier, "Is that a challenge?"
Denki quickly regains his composure and clears his throat, "Yes, it is and I'm going to destroy you."
He taunts. The bell then rings and I push back against the table and stand up. Still leaning over the table with my hands I grin at Denki. "You're on lover boy. 3:00 p.m. after school, training grounds."
I begin to walk away before adding, "Oh, and I wouldn't count on winning if I were you."
And with that I exit the cafeteria, a smirk still on my face. Boy is this going to be fun.
