Present-day
"Don't you think it's dumb that they want me to switch to night shifts?" Ivan hissed.
I snapped out of my train of thought and looked at Ivan. His cheeks were flushing and he was grinding his teeth. Why did he have to be so handsome? I wondered.
"Still can't seem to get your eyes off me, huh?" He asked me with a deep chuckle.
I cursed at myself quietly as I turned my attention away from Ivan to take a deep breath then back again to give him my full attention.
"Sorry about that. And, I agree. It is dumb that they want you to work nights," I replied. "At least you won't be working for a little."
"I'm so excited to see where you came from and maybe even meet your parents," He beamed.
"My parents would kill me if I came back home with a guy," I told him without trying to show much expression.
See, I have two very loving parents who are involved in my everyday life. I tell them everything from school to people I've seen on the streets and how I like their style. Except for the fact, I met a boy in New York and I'm pretty sure I like him, especially after what we did a few nights ago.
My parents have a total of 3 children including me. I have an older brother named Lewis and a younger brother named Kai. As you can see, Kai broke the 'L' chain we had going on but it's alright since he's a cutie.
Lewis is in college most of the time studying to become a surgeon. He's mostly quiet and has the most beautiful hair ever. Kai on the other hand is the polar opposite, he's loud and has the same hair as my dad, straight and brown. One thing we all have in common is our big brown eyes.
Ivan scoffed and looked at me. "Introduce me to them as your best friend in the whole wide world," He said with a cheeky grin plastered on his face.
I made a disgusted facial expression and shook my head. "More like my enemy, Ivan Aquilino." I smiled. His last name was nice, I fell in love with it instantly.
He then got up and I looked up at him. He still had that grin on his face as he sat down next to me and started reaching for the container that had the baby carrots. Instinctively, I reached to grab it before he got to it but he's way faster than I am and got it.
"Enemies don't travel alone together without their friends now, do they?" He asked.
I mean, he has a point. "You're right, I'll give you that. Now give me back my carrots," I said and attempted to grab it back from him but he pulled his arm away quickly so it was out of my reach.
"Lyra, Lyra, Lyra, Lyra. Sweet Lyra. Don't try and get it, you know it's no use."
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever, Ivan. By the way, did you happen to tell Rose about... you know... ?"
"Of course not."
"You sure?"
"Yes, why would I?"
I took a moment to analyze Ivan's facial features change and so did his body language when I asked about Rose.
I could feel him tense up next to me and the air suddenly got thicker and it became harder to breathe. I wasn't sure but I couldn't shake off the feeling that he might have told her something.
We - I mean, I did something I wasn't so proud of and I'm pretty sure it just cost me a friendship.
