Part Three

Dean had no idea what the ever loving hell ten pounds of acorns and assorted tree nuts were doing falling on his head, but when he had opened Cas's closet to put a sweatshirt of his among Cas's few clothes, there he found a horde.

Dean winced as one last sharp, brown acorn handed on his head with a small 'thoonk!' and fell to the floor with a hundred others.

He pinched his eyebrows in an attempt to stop his incoming headache. There was something about this angel that he loved, but hell if he didn't get a little mad at him sometimes.

Acorns? Really?

"Cas!" Dean shouted, knowing the angel could hear him even if he didn't. "What the hell is this!"

A quiet flap of wings brought the sheepish angel.

"Uh... Dean, those are 'acorns'."

His blue, innocent eyes scanned the mess sadly. His stash had been destroyed... Aw...

"I know they're acorns, what are they doing in your closet?"

Castiel stalled, because he didn't know why he picked an acorn every time he saw one. Or why he stole macadamia nuts individually from the grocery store when he went with Sam. It simply happened on impulse and was never questioned.

So this millenniums-old, ranking, powerful-beyond-human- comprehension angel settled with
"I... Don't know.?"

But he tilted his head in the way that always made Dean blush. He saw the second his boyfriend forgave him.

"Hey, Dean!" Sam burst in without warning.

"Ugghhh... What, Sammy?"

"Did you know that-"

"Oh no, if this is another oddly specific bird fact then get out."

"-some birds collect things, like woodpeckers often collect acorns! There are types of birds that will collect one general color to attract females, who like men who can clean and keep a good nest."

Cas looked at the carpet as Dean collected himself mentally.

"I like acorns," he whispered to himself.

Dean looked up at Sam.
"You're my brother, and I love you, but get out now."

Sam cackled a dark, funky laugh Dean hadn't heard before and shut the door.

What the duck, Sammy, He thought.

"Why'd you send away Sam?"

"Cas... Just snap this up and you can keep your acorn stash. Just... Let's find a better place than the closet, yeah?"

"They came out almost as rapidly as you."

Dean's eyes flew open and he felt himself turn red.

"But I'm glad you did. I love you, Dean."

But before he could say anything the nuts were back in the closet. Dean smiled.

"I love you too, Cas."
