IV. MONTHS LATER

'Dear Y/n,
Everything in Snezhnaya is the same as usual. I checked up on Vera the other day, she seems to be doing better. I don't see why you wanted to know, considering what she did, but I guess that's none of my business, right? Hope you're doing well and not getting into trouble! Write back when you can!'

You sighed and folded the paper, putting it in your drawer that was filled with letters from Ajax. You stood from your desk and glanced out the window, watching as kids played in the grass. There weren't usually many people around your house, but you'd occasionally get little kids who wandered too far from home. You went to the door and grasped the knob.

"₮ⱧɆɎ'ⱠⱠ ฿Ɇ ₴₵₳ⱤɆĐ Ø₣ ɎØɄ."

Shut up, you thought, pulling the door open so quickly that it slammed against the wall.

You sauntered out of the house and the kids took notice, stopping what they were doing to look at you as you approached them. They seemed slightly afraid, which you were aware was a common reaction. After you threatened the first kids who ended up near your house, you heard of a rumor going around about you being a "witch". You weren't always so harsh with children, you were just... having a bad day.

"You kids should go back home," you said, crossing your arms over your chest as you stopped in front of them, looking down at their small forms.

"T-The witch is real!?" The girl yelped, staring at the purple scar that trailed down your neck. The little boy just froze in place, unsure of what to do.

Suddenly, he screamed, "Please don't eat us!"

You winced from the loud noise and shook your head with a sigh. Replacing the frown that was previously on your face, you pasted on an unnerving smile. The kids jumped backward, unable to look away from you.

"Ah, yes!" You chirped. "I'm the witch that you all are so scared of. You should hurry up and run, before I cook you both into pies or turn you into trees!"

They screeched and you laughed, your smile turning genuine this time.

"I was kidding, jeez. If the other kids saw your faces, you'd be made fun of for ages!"

"Wait... So you're not a witch?" The boy asked.

"Of course not," you rolled your eyes, crouching down to be eye-level with them. "What are you doing out here?"

"Well... The other kids were making fun of us, and we wanted some privacy..." The girl explained, kicking up some dirt while looking at the ground, clearly ashamed of their reasoning.

"Hm?" You hummed. "What were they making fun of you for?"

"Well, we don't have any mo-"

"We'd rather not say!" The boy interrupted with a nervous grin. The girl gave him a questioning glance, but she stayed silent.
