VII. THE CLOSENESS OF COMPANIONS

After arriving in the resistance's camp, you found all the conversation to be rather boring. You thought you heard the man you saved being referred to as "Teppei", but you didn't care much for his name. He began showing you, Aether, and Paimon around the place before they stopped to speak with a few injured soldiers. You stood with them for a few minutes, only thinking of how badly you wanted to sew their mouths shut and drag Aether away, until you finally decided to wander off. You didn't care for the bullshit they were spewing.

You went to the training grounds, where a bunch of dummies were acting as archery targets. You turned your head to the bows that were set up off to the side before shrugging and walking over. You took a bow and a few arrows before getting into position. Unfortunately, you weren't very experienced with weapons since you never had a need for them, though you did have a sword for any instances where your anemo would be ineffective.

You pulled the string back and steadied your aim before letting go. Still, the arrow zoomed past your intended target and into the bushes. Sighing, you lowered the bow. You glanced down at it, noticing that it was nice to hold. It felt comfortable in your arms, like an embrace from an old friend.

"ɨ ӄռօա ɨ'ʍ ʂɨƈӄ, ɮʊȶ ƈǟռ ɨ ǟȶ ʟɛǟʂȶ ɢɛȶ ǟ ɦʊɢ...?"

"You're F/n, right?"

You sucked in a breath and turned around, dropping the bow and holding out your palm, ready to attack whoever was behind you. Though you didn't necessarily require your hands for battle, it was a habit you developed after a while of training. You only saw the army general whom you met when you arrived. You hesitated to let your guard down, but promptly calmed down and allowed your hand to fall to your side.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you..." He apologized, scratching the back of his neck.

"It's fine," you muttered. "What did you want?"

"Well, you seemed a bit... Quiet, earlier. I want to make sure you're warmly welcomed to the resistance," he smiled, placing his hands on his hips. "You looked like you were off in your own world before, so I'll reintroduce myself. I'm General Gorou of the Watatsumi Island Resistance!"

"Do you add the title every time you say your name?" You tested, unamused, before bending down and picking up the weapon at your feet.

He seemed a bit flustered by your unexpected comment, "N-No... I just feel it's fitting since you're a member of the resistance now!"

"₳₴ ł₣ ɎØɄ'Đ ɆVɆⱤ ⱠØØ₭ Ʉ₱ ₮Ø Ⱨł₥."

You glanced up at his ears and tilted your head to the side the slightest bit, "So... you're part dog?"

"Uh, yeah. Don't underestimate me, though! I'm a general for a reason, after all."

"Oh, I would never," you replied. "...Can I pet you, though?"
