Chapter 24

PufferPelt ate a small Shrew, As he Watched LakeShines new kits play in the center of camp. JaggedKit, a Light brown Tom with a long White stripe going down his back, HawkKit, A ginger tom, with big white paws. And the smallest,  LilyKit, A White she, with bright yellow eyes. PufferPelt longed to play with them, but every time he got close, Talon would chase him off. Even with that, PufferPelt noticed Talon never played with his kits, he never truly paid much attention to them. PufferPelt shook his head,  and walked over to the medicine den to visit WillowPaw. While climbing up the hill to the den, he heard MothWing and WillowPaw talking. " Yes WillowPaw, that is the right amount of Tansy for LoudBellys stomach ache, good job, you would be a great medicine cat apprentice " MothWing purred. " Thanks...I wanted to talk to you about that. I really like being in the medicine den...I would really like to be your apprentice! But then..I wonder how PufferPelt would feel. " WillowPaw mewed, and PufferPelt felt his heart drop. " Well I would love to have you as my apprentice, I'll talk to MistyStar about it, and I'm Sure PufferPelt will get over it, he was young to get a Apprentice " MothWing mewed " Now take the Tansy to LoudBelly and Practice not putting to much weight on your leg, ok? " MothWing said. " Alright! " WillowPaw mewed, and a few moments later, trotted out of the medicine den,  facing PufferPelt. " Oh! Hey PufferPelt...I..did know you where coming! " WillowPaw chuckled. " WillowPaw...I'm sorry I'm not the mentor you wanted...I know you will make a great Medicine cat..." PufferPelt mewed, and walked away from WillowPaw, tail dropping. He walked out of camp, and found himself at the edge of the lake, and he sat. After a few moments, tears streamed down his face, and he looked down into the water. " I can't even train a apprentice right! I wish I was never a Star, I just wanna be normal " PufferPelt cried, his shoulders sank. " PufferPelt...? " A soft voice came around the willow trees, and he turned to face it. " D-downPebble? " He sniffled, looked at the Grey she, who trotted next to him. " PufferPelt...it's alright.." DownPebble put her paw around PufferPelt, and pulled him closer, and PufferPelt cried again. " Maybe your destiny isn't to be a mentor...maybe you could help train cats to hunt on land..? " DownPebble mewed. " It's not just being a mentor! The clans have a prophecy...and I'm apart of it, and I'm going to have to save everyone from The DarkForest! It's too much... " PufferPelt whimpered. " DarkForest? " DownPebble tilted her head. " It's a place where Cats who walked the Darkest Path live in death, those who have killed and slaughtered " PufferPelt explained. " Ah...The tribe had something like that, ' The Tribe Of Endless Battle ' My father..Not Talon, I don't like talon, he is mean to mom, Ended up there when he tried the kill the StoneTeller, our leader. But I don't believe in your silly StarClan..I've always followed the tribe of endless hunting. " DownPebble shrugged. " Is i simpler than StarClan..? " PufferPelt asked. " It's not that hard, we just thank them once in the morning and once before we sleep " DownPebble mumbled. PufferPelt sniffed " Maybe..After everything is done, I'll look into The Tribe of Endless hunting... " PufferPelt smiled, and PufferPelt put his head on DownPebbles shoulder.
