After the sleepover Sunday went quickly and now it’s Monday. The bus was late so I didn’t really get to see Johnny in the morning and then it was note taking in English, so no Johnny then either. A few times during class I looked over and he sent me these heart melting smiles that made me blush. However, right now I’m in gym with Katie. We’re playing badminton today so we talk while we play. It’s us on one team verse these two boys that are really intense. They get annoyed when we miss a shot because we’re talking. That doesn’t stop us though. We mostly talk about things like what I thought of Twilight and how annoying she finds Miles until the boys decide to run to get water. We sit down in front of the net and she twirls her hair around her finger.
“So, Summer, you and Johnny are becoming a thing right?” She asks, nonchalantly.
I smile. “I don’t know. We are going on a date this Friday. We’re just taking things one step at a time. Why?”
She picks at the peeling nail polish on her nails. “I’m just wondering because you need to be careful.”
I look at her concerned. “Why? Has he abused one of his past girlfriends or something?” I try to sound like it’s a joke but if he has then I would like to know right now before we go on our date.
She looks at me. “No, nothing like that. I just want to tell you that if you want Johnny then you can’t be doing anything with Sam. I know that you are friends and that’s fine. Just know that if you want Johnny and you to work out, then you need to stay just friends with Sam. No kissing, no dates, don’t even cuddle with him or hug him for too long. Johnny will not forgive you and honestly neither will any of us.”
Katie is looking at me intently so I look down at my hands. “I don’t have any intentions of doing anything with Sam. I want to give Johnny and me a try to see if there is something there.”
She smiles at me. “Good. I really don’t want to see either of you getting hurt.” She pats my hand.
The boys are back from getting water so we stand up and start to play again. This time it’s not filled with talking and Katie destroys them.
Next thing I know its lunch time. It turns out that I have not once been able to talk to Miles in Social Studies. It’s a class that all you do is sit and take notes.
At lunch I get food and then look around for Sam. I realized that I’ve never actually seen where he sits. I’m only looking around for a few seconds when someone whispers in my ear.
“What are you doing beautiful?” Their breath tickles my neck.
I turn with a smile. “Hi Johnny. I’m looking for Sam, I’m sitting with him today.”
Johnny frowns. “You are? You always sit with us though.”
I look up at him; he is so cute. “I made a schedule of when I would see you guys separately and he complained that you got me all during school. So I told him that if I saw you out of school he would get lunch one day.”
“I guess that makes sense. So, you’ll be back with us tomorrow right?”
“Yup. It’s just for today.” I smile at him shyly. “However, I am seeing you Friday night so I’ll probably have to sit with him again.”
Johnny smiles. “Not if you don’t tell him. Then I can have you all to myself.” His hand brushes my black hair behind my shoulder and his fingers rest on my neck. Not in a menacing way, in a seductive way. His thumb rubs behind my ear; tempting me to lean forward and kiss him.
