Olivia assumed having a gremlin wouldn't be too different then having a dog. In fact, she assumed it to be easier. You wouldn't have to walk it, chase it around, sure it might stink but it seemed easier than carrying a bag of poop until you could find a trash can.
But she never assumed something so small, "Could produce so much noise!" she complained to Sophie as the two made their way to class. "And I swear he falls off of everything like he's trying to die."
Sophie giggled. "Seems like you have gremlin blues," she noted.
"No! I have no regrets!" Olivia promised. "Well actual—no! No regrets!" So many regrets.
The two were nowhere near their classes and they had a good two minutes before they would be late.
"Sophie?" someone squeaked from behind them. Biana, the beautiful teal eyed Vacker, offered an awkward smile to the two girls. "Hi. I was wondering if the two of you wanted to come over after school. We can be friends or at least try?" Her voice was gentle, quiet, but something about her manner set red flags off in Olivia. "Please?"
The two glanced at each other. Olivia wanted to scream and say no, maybe add an 'Assault and pepper!' in there somewhere after their recent interaction. But Sophie had a bigger heart. "Sure," she agreed for the both of them.
Olivia groaned and face-planted into her mattress. She has been dreading meeting with Biana all day, and now it was time to dress the part. She stayed drowning in her sheets for five minutes before picking herself and Kiko up.
Her outfit consisted of a nice pair of navy short and her Georgetown University crewneck, the school her mother had attended to get her degree in medicine, and a pair of converse to bring it all together. She smiled at herself in the mirror while she brushed her hair out of its knots and tangles. A knock at the door made Olivia jump.
"Olivia, may I come in?" Edaline asked, peaking in once Olivia opened the door for her. "Georgetown? That's a human school, right?"
She nodded and scooped Kiko from her nightstand. "My human mom went there. When we moved from California my mom made sure we lived close so she could finish her degree. Also, do you mind watching Kiko while I go hang out with pretty princess Biana? I'm sorry, I know you're close with the family." I should shut my mouth.
Edaline smiled, taking Kiko from Olivia's shaky hands and followed her around Havenfield. "It'll be okay, Olivia. The Vacker's would never hurt you. And you'll have Sophie."
"Thank you, Edaline." Olivia forced a smile and took a place next to Sophie at the leapmaster. Everything felt off, this whole hang-out felt like a trap. Maybe Everglen had a bottomless pit that Biana would throw them in. Oh, no officer, Olivia and Sophie never arrived at Everglen, I hope they're okay. Olivia rolled her eyes at the thought.
"Excited?" Sophie asked, offering her hand.
"Death seems more exciting." But still Olivia took her hand.
Biana greeted the two in her lovely teal dress, swinging the golden gates of Everglen open with a strained smile. "Hi."
"Hi," the two echoed.
"Well are you coming or not?" she asked, waving her arm around the empty lawn.
