23rd June 1986

Kimberley took a wet step out the door.

"Come on," River said softly as she followed his footsteps to his house, pausing to glance around.

He unlocked and pushed open the door, allowing Kim to enter first. She was hesitant, which caused her to pause for a moment.

"Don't worry, my folks aren't home," he reassured her as they both walked in and exchanged glances.

"Do you think you need clothes?" river asked

"Please,"she answered.

He gave a tiny nod before turning to proceed up the stairwell.

Kim stayed there for a minute, watching as he walked up the stairs.

"kim?" river called,

"yeah?"

"here,"

she heard him reply witch made her move up the stairs towards his bedroom.

When she stepped in and saw River in only a towel, her heart skipped a beat.

He smiled at her and handed her some of his clothes.

She took it from his grip and raised her eyes to him.

He quickly turned away from her, and she began to remove her wet clothing, gradually replacing it with his.

As she pulled his t-shirt over her head, she could smell the clean fabric.

It was silly, but something as stupid as smelling his clothes made her heart skip for him.

"could you put my wet things in the dryer," Kim said, making him turn around to face her.

Kim handed him her wet clothes and stood there watching him leave the room after he spoke to her.

She noticed he was already downstairs and walked over to his bed.

She decided to lie back on his head, but as soon as her head hit the pillow, she felt something hard, causing her to bounce up.

She reached beneath the pillow and took a book that appeared to be a diary.

She knew she shouldn't read it, but she couldn't help herself.

She began turning through the pages, beginning on November 12, 1984, and ending on June 20, 1986.

Kim took the initiative to read the most recent entry,

Tuesday, June 20th, 1986

"I truly feel happy; it appears that my family has settled and is staying put so far, and Kim, Kimberley, kimbo, she'd probably hate me for that last name, but I love her; maybe loves is a strong word, but that's how I feel!"

I've never felt like this before; what's happening to me is like a dream; I didn't see this happening; christ, I didn't even see myself staying here this long; but she's changed my mind; she genuinely makes me want to live.

I had no idea someone could be so polite, beautiful, and bright.

That's the greatest way to put it; she's the best thing that's ever happened to me; granted, I've only known her for a short time, but she makes me feel-"

When Kimberley heard footsteps coming up the stairs, she immediately panicked closing the book and sitting herself up, placing it back under his pillow.

"hey," she spoke up when he appeared around the corner.

"hey." she slowly moved her to his bed,

"i'm actually glad were not at school" Kimberley tried making conversation, ignoring the fact she found out things she wasn't supposed to.

"definitely rather be here then math" he joked making Kimberley's heart beat again.

she laughed pulling her legs up close to her chest.

River sat next to Kim on his bed, and when she looked up at him, they locked gazes for a second. Slowly, they moved closer to each other's lips, and just before they kissed, the front door opened.

River leapt from his bed, clutching his towel.

He murmured, "shit."

"river?" he heard his mother say.

"Closet, now," He demanded, prompting Kim to rush over to his closet.

"Yeah, mom?" he responded.

"Why are you home at 2:17 p.m., River?" Her voice grew louder the closer she came.

"They had to send us home something about the water at school wasn't working." He maintained his composure.

all white her heart was falling out of her ass the whole time.

Rivers' mother appeared at his door.

"why are you wet?" she inquired of her son.

"Mom, I just had a shower, and I need to change."

"Well, I was thinking," she said, pausing before continuing.

"We could have Kimberley and her mother over for dinner this week," she spoke

"Uh, sure mom," he said calmly as he smiled at his mother., watching her leave his room and hearing a door shut.

He let out a breath as he moved towards the closet, seeing a panicked Kimberley.

"Come on, you have to get out of here." His tone was hushed.

She didn't bring up the almost-kiss, no matter how much she wanted to.

"I need to walk you home quickly,"he said as she followed him down the stairs and out the door.

Kim nodded, Even though she didn't want him to walk her home, she didn't try to stop him because he needed to go back.

She remembered her clothes as they approached Kim's door.

"river! "My clothes!" she exclaimed hastily.

"Don't worry, it'll bring them back." rushed he said

"Bye, Kim," he said as he dashed back to his home.

"Goodbye, Riv"

Later that night, Kim sat in her room, reflecting about what had happened.

She checked the time, 6:37, and decided to close her window and curtains before spotting a small paper plane.

She picked it up and looked inside.

"Call me any time, river.

Before closing the blinds, she grinned to herself.
