February 18th 1987
Since the fight, all river and I had done was argue, it feels like we're stuck in an endless loop of tension and some sort of resentment towards each other. I can't shake the feeling that things have changed between us.
I felt hurt he chose to side with someone else, that someone being Vivienne, who he had- ugh I don't even want to remember again!
It's like he can't see why I did what I did, I did it for him! And that stings more than I'd like to admit.
"Rain what the fucks up with your brother" I sighed while talking to rain, hoping she could shed some light on rivers sudden shift in attitude.
"We're all just dealing with a lot right now" she said, her voice a little too casual, quickly realising she might have something she shouldn't have- I could see the hesitation in her eyes, and this? This only fuelled my curiosity more.
"Wait What do you mean you're dealing with stuff? What kind of stuff?" I fired off a bunch of questions, trying to understand rivers sudden change, I needed answers.
"Uh just the usual family stuff, you know how it is" rain replied, her tone light but her eyes flashing a hint of concern. But before I could say much else she spoke up again "But hey, I heard you took down Vivienne; That was awesome!" Rain laughed trying to shift my attention away from the whole topic of her family.
I couldn't help but feel frustrated at her attempt to change the subject. Sure, it was amazing taking her down, But it felt hallow when I was grappling with fall out of my relationship with river. "Yeah, it was something." I forced a smile.
"Look, I know things are rough right now but you two will figure it out" her voice soft "Just give it time Kim, time and space"
I wanted to believe her I truly did, but the ache in my chest told me otherwise. Rain reached over and squeezed my hand.
"You know he wouldn't do anything to hurt you"
Suddenly the front door burst open with a force that rattled the frame.
It was river.
He seemed to be in a hurry for whatever reason. "River! Why are you making all that noise? Where-where are you going!" Rain yelled at her brother with annoyance, as she left go of my hand we both sat on the couch momentarily frozen, waiting for the blonde to return down stairs.
"Out!" he called back his voice echoed the house as his foot steps were still heavy half way up the staircase.
Rains brow furrowed "out where?" She shouted but river was already upstairs- possibly unable to hear.
The sound of his heavy footsteps wa hows through the house, a rhythmic thud that only heightened her irritation.
Rain and I sat on the couch exchanging glances, both of us impatiently waiting for his return.
Finally, his footsteps grew louder as he bounced down the wooden stairs. He was dressed nicely, a nice shirt and jeans.
"Hello! Earth to river?" Rain called out to her brother- her voice dripping with sarcasm as she waved a hand towards him, possibly snapping him out of whatever trance he was in.
"Ugh rain, what?" He sighed, his eyes avoiding my gaze.
"Where are you going?" She once again asked him
"Look it's not really none of your business but if you must know-" he paused taking a very Quick Look at me before looking away
"A date." The words tumbling out before dashing front the front door, slamming it behind him, leaving us both in a stunned silence.
We exchanged a shocked expression, our mouths agape. A date? With who?! Without wasting another second, we rushed towards the window. My heart pounding, as we peered outside.
We both watched as river climbed into someone's car, the sleek vehicle parked outside the house.
He was laughing with this person, this- this person who-
Vivienne.
Fucking Vivienne.
My stomach dropped. No this wasn't right, not one bit!
Before I could do anything the car had zoomed off, leaving me emotionless.
"What the fuck."
