TAERIC

"Wait, please, I don't want to hurt you!" I tell her, watching as her eyes widen.

She is beautiful. I have never seen anything like her. Her hair is dark and in a long braid down her back with small waves that frame her face. Her skin, a warm amber color.

She looks like my species, albeit more petite. But no other creature looks even close to us. I haven't seen a female that looks like our species since they had all died, especially not one this beautiful. My heart beat quickly. She is incredible.

This could be the planet, the species that saves us. She begins to sputter in her language, her weapon dropping in her distress. "Hoo arr yoo? Wie an erth ded yoo jest fol frem the ski-" She babbles.

I push the button on the slide of the translator and speak into it, still keeping my hands up by my head. "Scan species. Download language to Broemcrev," I tell the communicator, instructing it to add the language chip all Dervidixians who joined the search forces had. It allowed us to learn other languages at a rapid rate so that communication would not be a problem.

Usually, the device would scan any language and then allow me to speak it as well as understand it, but conveniently, or not so conveniently, that was the part of the scanner that was broken.

"Scanning language of Earth Humans," It verifies. "Downloaded." It completes with a beep.

"-and then crawl out of that spaceship like some- some- ALIEN?!" The human laughs hysterically in disbelief.

"Scan for compatibility," I ask urgently, not looking away from the young female.

"Compatibility," it pauses, and the computer hums with electricity while I wait, holding my breath in suspense, "Verified. Breeding feasible between Humans and Dervidixians."

I stand still, staring in astonishment. We are saved. We are all saved. I reached forward. "Please, I won't harm you, I swear it," I promise the small female again.

She looks at me with bewilderment. "This can't be happening."

I push a few buttons on the communicator, pulling open the species dictionary. "Search for, 'won't hurt.'" The device gave me the phrase I was looking for almost instantly. "Aye woown't, hart yuu" I try to say, using the translator's guide for pronunciation.

Her eyes widen again, and she shakes her head with disbelief.

EMARA

I shake my head, baffled by what is happening. I put my left hand on my face and rub my eyes, my right hand still holding the gun I had lowered earlier.

I try to make sense of what was going on. I had gone out to check the traps. Something crashed by the lake. I went to check. Foolish. I had found someone- something. I'm not even sure he is human! "Of course! I mean, the word has fallen apart! Why not Emara! Why not? Let's just add some giant, handsome alien man to the mix!" I cover my mouth in embarrassment, realizing I had said the last bit aloud.

He chuckles, obviously understanding me. Whatever that device is, it let him know what I was saying. "You can understand me then," I say out loud, letting him know what I was thinking.

He nods his head, telling me I was right, even though I hadn't been asking. He looks tentative, his hand out and he takes another step.

My feet pull me another step back, but I don't feel as scared. If he had wanted to hurt me he would have dont it by now, and there would have been nothing I could have done. "So then- " a loud snarl cuts me off, and my eyes go wide with terror. My stomach drops, and my breath stills.
