EMARA
Taeric bites into the jelly sandwich the girls had made for an early lunch. His entire face brightens as he takes another bite.
I can't help but chuckle over his wonder at such a silly thing. He looks up from the food, and my eyes go wide. There it is again. His eyes were so colorful. It had happened before after the mountain lion attacked. I am not the only one that noticed either, because Evey was gasping.
"Your eyes look like the stars! How did you do that?" Her mouth hung open in wonder.
"Like the galaxy," Lilly mumbles, staring in as much amazement as her younger sister.
"I noticed when we first met. How do your eyes almost seem like they are getting brighter?" I laugh, "Are you so amazed by my amazing jam-making skills your eyes are lighting up like the stars?"
Taeric nods adamantly, and I laugh some more, thinking he is joking. "Oh yes, I'm sure." I wave my hand through the air dismissively before leaning over to help Jace, who is making a mess. There is jelly everywhere. Jace's eyes are glued to Taeric with an apprehensive expression in them.
Taeric sighs and pulls out the device he kept using to communicate. Sort of like a dictionary, I muse. "Luud iv, yak, sraae bacuka kura bresrs bokad um kae iuae, ur dordar kruk kae omsar," he rushes out. The device lit up. Taeric grumbles as he tries to read the translation. "Yus, tha b-bekem-"
I look over at the translator and read aloud. "Yes, they become brighter based on my level of joy or excitement, or darker from my anger or sadness." My eyes widened. "Wait, really?"
He nods his head, relaxing, knowing that he wouldn't have to translate large speeches for me.
"So, does everyone have eyes like yours?"
He gives me a confused glance.
"Do they all look like the galaxy? Or do they have other colors? Like how I have dark brown eyes, and Lilly has light brown. Or how Jace has blue," I clarified, with a point to each person. "And do they all change based on what you're feeling?"
He spoke into the device again and places it in my hand. I notice a small dent in the side. "My species has eyes in varying color, but they all change based on our mood."
"That's so cool!" Evey says. Lilly nods her head in agreement.
"It is," I admit with a smile.
Taeric's eyes brighten again, and I watch in amusement. Now I knew a telltale sign of his mood. That solved about a billion problems. Too bad humans didn't all have that. Lord knows we are the ones that need it, too.
"So, where exactly are you from?" I ask. If he is going to be staying anywhere near us, I want a little more info.
"Dervidix locuka kruk sra vromas."
I look at the translator. "I come from the planet Dervidix." He nods and smiles. "Mmmm, interesting name! So, how come you crashed to earth?" I hand the translator back to him.
"I rom emsu om oksarued bars, omd es dokosad kae krev. I maadad su koda om akarsamcae romdems, omd Eorsr vok sra maoraks emrobesad vromas."
I look at the translator and snorted out a laugh and raise a brow before reading. "The asteroid hit the belt and damaged the car. I have to fly to the mainland and my father will go with me."
Taeric's eyes go wide and he shakes his head. Lilly and Evey burst out laughing.
"Gukr dores..." he mumbles under his breath. He holds out his hand and I hand the translator back to him.
"Having a little trouble?" I tease.
Taeric turned a little pink at the ears and I grin wider. "Amoksarued bars dokosad kaerev." He says each word to the translator very carefully. "Eorsr voksra maoraks emrobesobra vromas, kuromdad rara, bises vosuu dokosad crokrad."
"The asteroid belt destroyed my ship. It lands here because Earth is nearest inhabited planet, but it damage is too great that it is destroyed." The grammar is a bit off, but it is enough to give me the jist of what he means. I had seen his ship in the lake, so I knew that it wasn't an easy landing.
"Oh! I remember learning about the asteroid belt in our galaxy in a book!" Lilly says with excitement. "That is really far though... is your planet even farther than that?"
Taeric nods.
"Were you just out in space for a joy ride, or were you doing something? Are there more aliens out there? Are they going to come for you?" I ask, leaning in curiously.
The device screen flickers and he slaps the side of it. It stops flickering, and he speaks into it. "Nusrara ora komae kura oreamk. Okroqems sruibra vesr kae sromkkessar bis Iok ruvems sukoda cumsocs vesrkae covsoem qarae kuum." He hesitates for a moment, looking almost uncertain. "I okrara bacoika varoqa baam kaorcrems kur omusrar kvaceak srosek cukvosebra. Waora odaeems rocaomd maad kakorak."
"No, there are too many guests. I'm worried about safety, but I want to talk to the boss. I'm here because I'm looking for another job. We're not going to die, that's it. Yes, men and women, I must turn into babies."
"HAHAHAHA!" Lilly and Evey burst out laughing and I am laughing just as hard along with them.
Taeric, the poor guy, looked like he wanted to slam his head on the table. I chuckle. This is obviously not working the way it is supposed to. This thing was translating like it was going through all the languages on earth before getting to English, getting more distorted with each translation.
"Want to try again?" I laugh, holding the translator back to him. He tries again, speaking into it and handing it back to me. "No, there are more immigrants. There is a problem with the supplier, but I hope to find the owner soon. I'm here because we need something. I came here because I demand more opportunities. In fact, people are needed. We are dead, but we love women." I slam my hand on the table, cackling with laughter.
Evey falls out of her chair laughing and Lilly buries her head in her arms, her body shaking with laughter.
I told the translator out once again. My hand shook a little as I continued laughing. "Would you like to-"
Taeric shakes his head, looking completely defeated. He takes the translator and puts it back into his pocket.
That translator is secretly google translate.
Side note: I had way too much fun messing up what he was actually trying to say.
Hopefully, it's as funny to you all as it was to me. 💀
