Shots were fired and men were yelling. Swiftly I got out of my bed and rushed to grab twin swords as I ran out of the underground bunk to the tranches that were built. I took place by the parapet and waited there. Taking a quick look above I notice that the infected were attacking, they were... running now. How can this be? It's not possible for them to evolve like this. Has this ability been spread to other infected? This isn't going to be good. I stood up in an instant and got out my blades, walking forward and in one fluid motion my blade had slit the neck of an infected, and the only sound made was the thumping of the infected's head hitting the soil beneath my feet. I did that to man of the infected till all went silent, not one infect was standing, maybe stumbling to get back up and moaning or groaning as they tried but were hushed by the ends of my twin blades. There was no point of wasting my ammunition in my 22 magnum on such little encounterments with this small group of infected. After going through  few rounds around the perimeter I went back to base to check on Jake, the youngest of the Corey twins.

"Serene!" Jake called from around the corner. "Hey wait up."

I came to a hault somehow wondering how he got behind me, maybe I passed by him by accident.. who knows anyway I stopped and turned to face him. He looked beat, and tired, panic filled those blue eyes of his and dirt covered his face, sweat from his brow with the stench of fear filling my notrills.

"Hey, is everything okay? You alright?" Jake asked with worry on the tip of his tongue.

I gave him a nod but I still had to be sure, whilest graping Jake by the arm firmly and pulling him around to an epmty room, oepning the door. I pushed him in the room and walked in after him shutting the door silently and making sure the coast was clear and no one was watching us. Once inside I walked up to him, grabbed his face in my palms and moved his head around searching for any scratches, cuts, bites, etc.. and as soon as I took his right wrist into my grasp he flinched and grimaced. He grimaced, oh shit.

Jake was looking as me with worried eyes, those puppy-dog eyes fill with panic and stress, it's just a look you never want to see on a young being. Granted the man was in his mid 20's but still, I felt for him. Jake recoiled and gasped when I tried to roll up his sleeve; man he could be such a little kid at times. Finally I got his trust and I rolled the sleeve all the way up to his elbow and saw the large scratch going from his wrist to the middle of his fore-arm.

I examined this wound very diligently, every aspect of it, how deep it was, how fresh it was, and how long it would be before he wasn't himself anymore. By the looks of it he had a while but the sypmtoms would appear nontheless by tomorrow the latest. After I was done I rolled his sleeve down and looked him in the eyes. How could I keep my secret from him now? Well here goes nothing, I had to do it for him to trust me on this and I know this will cause him to try and act out but we were in a seculded room and I hope no one was watching or spying on us otherwise I would have to kill them.

Taking a step back I reached up to the hem of my helmet and unlatched the buckle that secured it on my head. Jake had his head tilted the entire time but stayed silent. I slowly lifted it off my head and heard Jake gasp with his jaw clentched. Now he could see the person behin the tinted helmet sheild hiding from the world. I looked into his emerald green eyes with my firey orange waiting for a response.

"How are you..?" Jake couldn't finish his sentence without getting even more dumbfounded.

"Are you..?"
