Chapter 15

Nanon's POV

"Do you like me?" I finally asked him.

"I..." Right then, Ciize came in.

"Should we go home now?" she asked. She was all smiles, which made me feel awkward considering how the atmosphere was before she came in. I smiled back.

"We should," I replied and grabbed my stuff.

"Nanon." I ignored Chimon and walked straight to my car, placing all my stuff on the back seat.

"I should get going. Bye, Ciize, Chimon."

"Drive safely," Ciize replied. I drove away before Chimon could say another word.

I'm scared. I'm scared of what he'll reply to my question. And I'm scared of what I might do if he said yes.

I went straight to the kitchen when I reached home, grabbing myself something to eat. Then, I sat down and scrolled through my notifications as I ate. The first one I replied to is Janhae's message.

I'm home

I replied, I just got home. Are you still awake?

The next message I read is from my manager, which is my work schedule for the next two months. There are also notifications from some group chats with my classmates. And then, there's Chimon.

Drive safely.

"Nanon." I looked up and saw my mother. She sat down in front of me, looking frustrated.

"Explain this," she said and showed me her phone. It showed the Live Chimon and I did a while ago, but what's noticeable about it are the comments.

Chimon looked sad. Oh no.

Nanon, did you cheat on Chimon?

I think they broke up but are just covering it up by saying that their relationship is just a prank. Chimon obviously looked sad.

This is not a prank.This is a break up.

Is this because of Janhae?

Nanon and Janhae were seen dating. Did Nanon cheat on Chimon?

Chimon must be in a secret relationship with Pluem so technically, he's the one who cheated. Not Nanon!

I massaged my aching forehead. This is not the reaction that we expected.

"Nanon, I thought you and Janhae are dating? What's this? We did not raise you to be a cheater!" I understood my mom's frustration but it's just adding to my throbbing headache.

"Who's Chimon? Is he the friend that visited you before?"

"Mom, it's all a misunderstanding." I sighed. I feel so drained and tired.

"Chimon is just a friend. It's really just a prank. I'm not cheating on Janhae." I said, then drank my glass of water.

"If I found out that you're cheating on Janhae..." I nodded. I don't need to know what she might do because it won't happen.

"You should do better than this," she replied and muttered inaudible words that I did not bother to listen to.

"Yes mom," I whispered. I finished the rest of my food and prepared for bed. Under the shower, I contemplated the comments. Where did we go wrong?

I watched the Live as I lay down on my bed.

Hello everyone! Today I am with Chimon and we have something to tell about our-

It's a prank!

I understood then what the people were talking about. Chimon looked sad. He was smiling, but his eyes said otherwise.

As you all know, Nanon and I are really close with each other but sorry, we're not that close.

Why was he sad?

Unfortunately, the prank went on too long because of circumstances that we all know, and we all should give respect to whom it's due.

He looked disappointed when I broke my hand away from our intertwined fingers.

Anyway, I hope you'll-

I did not bother to finish the entire video. We just created another problem instead of fixing the problem we already had.

I needed someone to talk to, so I decided to message Janhae.

Can I call you? She's a good listener and she always gives good advice.

A few minutes later, my phone rang.

"Janhae?" but the other line was silent. I checked my screen and had a mini shock when the name of the caller wasn't Janhae. It was Chimon.

"Chimon..." I said, not knowing what else to speak.

"Why did you call?" I finally asked. Will he answer the question I asked a while ago? Will he tell me if he likes me or not? I braced myself for what he's about to say.

"Have you seen the comments on our Live? We're in a deeper mess now." So that's the reason why he called. I swallowed my disappointment.

"Yeah, I've seen the comments. But what more can we do?" I asked. We can't do another Live and say the same things again.

"Pluem went here." Pluem. Hearing his name made me feel bitter.

"He wanted to get back with me."

"And how is that related to us?" I asked, suddenly feeling possessive.

"If I get back with him, then the prank would make sense."

"It doesn't make any sense to me," I replied, standing up to get myself some fresh air.

"People think I was sad because you cheated on me with Janhae, then I should explain that the real reason was because of my break up with Pluem. Then if you introduce Janhae as your girlfriend and I get back with Pluem, everything would be back to where they're supposed to be." I sighed in frustration.

"Isn't this what you wanted to happen? To officially announce your relationship with Janhae?"

"Yes, but..."

"Why would you even consider other things. I'm helping you out here!"

"I know but..." I sighed. Why am I being frustrated? What he said is true. This is what I wanted to happen. But I'm not so sure anymore if I still want it now.

"I don't understand anymore," I replied.

"I know you don't want me to get back with Pluem. But a while ago he apologized and said that he finally wanted to announce our relationship in public." Chimon! I thought you no longer want to get back with him!

"This is what I've wanted," he said, and I felt my heart break.

"Fine," I replied.

"You agree?"

"Yes, now please let me sleep," I said. I inhaled deeply and looked up. The stars looked beautiful even as they looked blurry through tears.

"Good night, Nanon." I ended the call. I sighed and sat down on a chair near me. Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Janhae. I almost forgot that I messaged her.

"Nanon, how are you?" Janhae said.

"Janhae..." 

"Nanon, what happened?" My eyes stung with tears, but they kept falling.

"Nanon, I love you." After that, she did not say anything anymore. She just listened to me crying silently.
