"Rowan I don't understand, why would you take him back?" Jeanette has been scrutinizing me as soon as I walked into her apartment.
"He had a good reason."
"You know how stupid you sound right now? Dumber than me, that's how." Valerie said with hooded eyes.
"Just let me explain," I said exasperated.
"Okay Enlighten us," Jeanette said while crossing her arms and sitting back on her couch.
"He found out that Miles was involved in the death of his friend." After I said that Jeanette gave me you must be lying look.
"Wait what," Sarah said with her eyebrows furrowed.
"Oh shit," Valerie said eyes practically popping out of her skull.
"And, the ex-girlfriend that literally ruined him for every woman on planet Earth, called him, saying that she still loved him, on the same day.
"Wait you mean the ex-girlfriend that he almost married?" Sarah questioned.
"You knew about that?" Jeanette asked Sarah.
"Knew about it? bitch I was there for the whole thing."
"Damn." All three of them said simultaneously.
"I don't know the details, but apparently he was in love with this girl, but she tricked him, took some of his money and ran to another rich guy."
"That's some Jedi Mind Tricks right there," Sarah said still in awe.
"Well, that still doesn't give him the right to be a dick," Jeanette said, still mad.
"I know, and I lectured him about it, I swear, but I want to be with him, I just can't help it," I said while looking down at the ground. Sarah placed her hand on mine and gave me a gentle smile in comfort.
"You know what, I get it," Valerie said. We all looked at Valerie in confusion.
"Well, I'm kind of experience in the bad choices department when it comes to guys before I met David of course. But I understand, you both are kind of fucked up because of your past relationships, so it's hard for you to convey your emotions properly, but it's obvious that you both really do like each other, it's just that your defence mechanism is hurting each other and running away.
We all looked at Valerie with wide eyes, this is one of the first times we've ever heard her say something this smart, other than her work talk, that she's pretty good at.
"What?"
"Nothing, it's just, your kind of right?" Jeanette said still freaked out.
