Ava Cobalt; This Means War [Book 4]

Part 6, Hospital

[Red Base, Five Minutes Earlier]

Nova ran into Red Base and saw everyone crowded around the front door. They were trying to block her way.

Nova, screaming: WHERE IS HE?

Matt: You're too late. He's gone.

Nova: No... you're lying. YOU'RE LYING!

She let out a small blast, knocking all of them off their feet. She ran over to the warehouse to see the door open and the Mountaineer's spot empty. She ran outside and levitated herself to the roof. She saw them driving away, and knew she only had one option to make sure he survived. She tapped into her energy and let out an ear-splitting scream. A beam of pure energy shot out of her going upwards, then began to expand to create a massive dome, bigger than she had ever done before.

This is what all of the hell I've been through has been for.

But, the dome wasn't closing fast enough. They were going to make it. She had used most of her energy creating the force field, but knew she had a small bit left. She grimaced.

This is going to hurt.

She fired a giant serum lightning bolt toward the car. As soon as she saw it make an impact, her vision went red, then black.

[The Hospital]

Ava woke up feeling like shit.

The pains in her body were so bad she couldn't even move. She was bandaged from head to toe with special material to prevent the serum from bleeding through. You could tell it was a very private room, not accessible easily due to there being almost no doctors outside or even anyone in the waiting room. Except for the people she loved the most.

Ava, weakly: Mommy! Daddy!

Matt and Amanda woke up instantly and rushed over to the bedside, faces filled with joy and worry at the same time.

Dad: Hey, Sweetie. How are you feeling?

Ava: Other than like I've been dragged through hell and back by my hair, I feel great!

Mom: I'm so sorry honey. We've been waiting here for you to wake up ever since you got here. We were worried that–

Suddenly Amanda's voice broke, tears forming in her eyes.

Dad: You've been out for almost a week now. The doctor said that you were in a minor coma. After that car crash, you-

Ava, confused: Wait, what? Car crash?

Dad: Yeah. Nova sent a lighting bolt after you, I guess after she saw you guys might make it through. It hit the car dead center and the entire area flashed red for a second. Then we saw it, almost in slow motion. The car flipped almost ten times, the impact was that bad. Nova passed out for almost fifteen minutes after that, but we went and dragged you, both, out. You guys miraculously survived. We called 911 and took you two inside. Nova came in after she regained herself. She... she threatened to kill you if we didn't hand over Ben. I'm so sorry, honey.

Ava: What? After all of this (she looked down at the casts) we still lost Ben?

Matt: Again, I'm so sorry honey. We will try our best to get him back, I promise. But right now, let's wait until you're better.

Just then the doctor went in and smiled at them all.

Dr: How are we feeling, now that you woke up?

Ava: I'm feeling physically fine. Not so sure on the emotional part, though.

The doctor chuckled.

Dr: Your parents told me you had an interesting sense of humor. But, humor aside, due to the severity of your injuries, we want to keep you here another week. Especially since you were in a coma.

Ava sighed.

Ava: Alright. But when do I get the stinkin' bandages off?

Dr: Soon, I promise.

Mom: Thank you, Doctor.

He nodded, then left. Matt and Amanda got up, and Matt laid a gentle hand on Ava's knee.

Matt, gently: We're going to head home for the night, is there anything you want?

Ava shook her head.

Ava: No thanks, Dad. See you tomorrow.

Amanda gently kissed Ava's forehead.

Mom: Love you, honey.

Ava: Love you too Mom.

Dad: Goodnight!

Ava: Night, Dad! 

[Ava's Hospital Bed, 7:43 pm]

Ava lay in her bed, thinking.

How the fuck are we going to get Ben back?

Ava-

Dad, I'm not going to do anything crazy. How could I? Right now, I'm just thinking. Let me think. It'll make me feel better. Also, it's hot as hell in this fucky ass, hot ass room I'm in. IS THAT THE GRIM REAPER?!
