『 Chapter 23: A New Beginning 』

You, Hiccup, and your dragons sped over the open water, upturning the waves at the speed you were going. You both took a sharp right turn towards Berk, flying around the newly painted homes and new dragon stables. A few years had gone by since you had met Rainsong and were requested to watch over Hiccup.

Of course, things didn't go perfectly over the past couple of years, whispering deaths had burrowed into the island at one point. Mildew was evil! Ew. He then blew up the Armory. Dagur took over the Berserker Tribe. The Outcast Tribe and the Berserker Tribe had teamed up. And then of course there was the Berserker war. But of course, the Berserker's lost, leaving them in prison.

You looked down and spotted a sheep with a target on it and dove. Quickly you were cut off by Fishlegs who snatched up the sheep. You let out a growl before quickly following the boy and his dragon towards the arena. Rainsong's wings had been painted with green stripes along with your face for the dragon racing event. You all circled the arena, looking ahead you spotted Snotlout, he and Hookfang took a sharp turn, slamming into the Gronckle and taking the sheep.

"I'm sorry, Fishlegs, did you want that?" He asked before Hookfang shot his wings out and let the draft carry him backward towards Ruffnut and Tuffnut. He looked up at Ruffnut, "Here you go babe- Did I tell you that you look amazing today?" He stated more than asked, "'Cause you do."

Ruffnut rolled her eyes, "Uhg, come on Barf. It's starting to stink around here." She said as Barf started releasing the flammable gas from his mouth. You quickly flew up, preparing to avoid the blast. You heard the explosion and watched as the twins flew off. You and Rainsong shot past them before quickly turning back around and turning upside down and flying in between the two dragons' heads. You quickly grabbed the sheep from Ruffnut's hands and flew towards the finish and dropping the sheep in your basket.

"OH! COME ON!" You heard Tuffnut shout. You and the twins were now tied. You turned before looking over at Hiccup's basket, realizing it was empty. You looked around, where was he? You were flying with him earlier. You heard the large horn sound and realized it was the last lap. Your head shot up as you looked around.

"The black sheep!" You exclaimed, watching as Astrid responded the same way after hitting Snotlout on the head. Both you and her made eye contact, determination burning in her eyes. You gave Rainsong a soft pat before the two of you dove to fly closer to the ground, Astrid followed close behind. If she got the sheep it would be game over for you. You then quickly flew upwards to see the giant crossbow being loaded. You held on tight as Rainsong readied her claws, but you were quickly cut off by Meatlug and Fishlegs grabbing the sheep from right under your noses.

You watched as Meatlug spun and tossed the sheep to Ruffnut. You rolled your eyes before flying under them, they hadn't noticed you or Astrid, who flew behind them and got up on the back of Stormfly and stood. The twin's fought over the black sheep and Astrid hopped off of Stormfly and grabbed the sheep before jumping off the front of the dragon preparing for Stormfly to catch her. Little did she know you were already there, Astrid fell, realizing the space, and dropped the sheep.

You caught the black sheep and Rainsong caught Astrid in her talons before the two of you flew over and dropped Astrid onto Stormfly and shot off once more. As soon as you got to the goals you and Rainsong were pushed out of the way by Meatlug. You then looked forwards to see Snotlout holding a hammer.

"Uh, 'scuse me!" He said sarcastically before swinging at you.

"Rainsong!" You called before the dragon ducked quickly causing Snotlout and Fishlegs to collide. The two of you spun out of control for a second. before Rainsong redirected herself and flew above the goals. You then quickly dropped the sheep into the goal, successfully winning the game.

"THAT'S 27! (Y/N) takes the game by a landslide!" Stoick called from his place in the stands. The crowds cheered while you raised your arms and smiled looking around at the people. You then flew down, holding your hand out and giving Hi-fives to the people reaching out. You flew up into the sky, remembering the lack of Hiccup. You looked out into the distance, seeing a streak of black fly by. You shook your head with a small smile on your face.

You leaned down and patted Rainsong on the head, "Wanna go find Hiccup?" The dragon let out a snort before flapping excitedly. You smirked and shot off in the direction you saw him go. Flying above the clouds instead of staying low. Throughout the past few years, you had discovered that Rainsong could camouflage among the clouds. So you needed to make a custom saddle for her made of her shredded scales. So instead of the saddle sticking out in the clouds the two of you would blend in well.

You leaned forward, creating a more aerodynamic space and raising your speed a bit. The flapping of Rainsons wings didn't even create noise as the two of you flew towards Hiccup and Toothless. Staying above the clouds you watched as the two did a few tricks, Toothless flew upside down before diving straight down towards the ground and opening his wings again, and flying up in the clouds, closer towards you. They both spun before breaking through the clouds and going limp dropping towards the ground. Toothless spread out his wings before opening them and floating through the clouds. Hiccup leaned upwards and spread his arms out, catching the wind.

Seeing him happy like this made your heart skip a beat. A large shadow passed by and you looked up to see a group of Timberjacks flying above the clouds. You looked down and noticed Hiccup pulling his handles down before giving Toothless a soft pat on his neck. you didn't know what they were talking about but you decided to just watch and wait. Toothless looked up at the boy nervously before looking forwards again.

Hiccup shifted his prosthetic, opening Toothless's tail flap and disconnecting himself from the dragon. You watched, slightly confused as to what he was doing. Hiccup quickly rolled his shoulders to ease tension before dropping off the side of the dragon.

Toothless quickly followed the boy, diving down towards the water. You followed suit, tailing them from a distance so they didn't see you. The two of them looked at each other happily and Toothless stuck his tongue out.

Hiccup then reached down towards his book and pulled on it, it released a flap which he grabbed onto and held out. He hovered slightly before quickly reaching over and tapping a button on his chest, releasing a flap that looked like it was a tail flap. Your jaw dropped, he was flying. The two of them flew together perfectly, it looked so fun. Toothless shot out a couple of happy blasts before Hiccup let out a cheer. As they burst through the clouds you noticed the two of them flying right towards rock stacks. Hiccup was started and lost momentum. The dragon tried to keep up with him but was a bit too slow due to the lack of a rider.

You quickly flew down, shooting a shot at the rocks and destroying them allowing Hiccup to pass through freely. Toothless flew forwards and grabbed onto the boy, wrapping him in his wings as they plummeted to the ground. They lanted in the trees before falling to the uneven ground. You landed gracefully behind them hearing Hiccup let out an exasperated sigh.

Toothless unwrapped his wings and let go of the boy. Hiccup sat up before twisting his prosthetic to walking mode. He stood up and brushed himself off and you watched as Toothless did the same. You dismounted Rainsong and leaned against her crossing your arms and looking at the boy.
