The dark figure stepped out of the shadows, his dark robes looked a few sizes too big for him.
Valerie recognised him immediately, though he barely looked anything like he used to. He was thinning drastically, not like he wasn't thin before, but this looked almost scary. He had dark circles under his eyes translucent eyes and his hair was slightly dishevelled from the front.
Though there was one thing that hadn't changed: that snake ring that he always wore. But there was something else, another ring that he wore during his seventh year at Hogwarts was gone: a simple gold band, like one from a wedding set. Everyone knew he was engaged to some prissy pureblooded girl who went to beauxbatons, but whatever did happen to that?
"You!"
"No, you!"
"Why are you here, Rose?"
"No why are you here, Malfoy?" Valerie stepped towards a smirking Malfoy.
"Because Minerva asked me to be the new potions teacher, all I'm waiting for is the other candidate- oh!"
"Oh, what, Malfoy?"
"There is only one reason why you would be here."
"And... Tell me, for I haven't the slightest clue!" She gave out a long sigh and raised her arms above her head. "I haven't had the nicest of days today," she shot a glare at Minerva who was standing next to the picture of professor Dumbledore, he decided to retire back in his photo frame. An entertaining smile planted firmly on both of their faces, Albus' eyes twinkled just the same as when he was alive.
Draco just cocked his head and smiled at Valerie as he walked around the circular room, hands by his sides and face always facing Valerie.
"Stop strutting around Malfoy and tell me why I'm here!"
"And why would you think that I would know?" His tone was flat and it sounded as if he wasn't finding this conversation interesting. Though the two professors defiantly were: Dumbledore was openly laughing and Minerva was trying to stifle a little giggle behind the back of her hand.
The angry look on Miss. Rose's face grew hard and she glared at the professors; burning into them.
'Their meant to responsible, mature adults!' She thought as she heard Draco plop down on the chair behind the desk, propping his feet on top. He always knew how to get her on the edge.
"Just tell me!" She screamed at Minerva, "why am I HERE? And especially with HIM?" Valerie's temper snapped and hit them all back in the face. A "Sorry" was murmured out as immediate guilt rose over her and she looked down at her shoes, a blush etching onto her cheeks.
"Just calm down, Miss. Rose-" McGonagall tried to start but Draco had decided to oh-so interrupt
"Oh, it's alright professor, I can tell Miss. Rose, anyway I thought you were going to show us our shared living quarters" he said, moving his hands between himself and Valerie who had a bit of a sour face on.
"Shared? You want me to shed with him?!" Her gaze turned to Minerva, a pleading look in her eyes as to say 'please tell me this is a joke!'
"Yes, follow me you two." Her stern voice and expression returned to her face, "we won't talk about what happened in there." She looked embarrassed that two of her former pupils had to see her like that. "Oh, but just one minute, what house would you like to be in?"
"SYLITHERIN" Kate and Draco both shouted. House pride is the only thing that Professor McGonagall could think of as she led them up to the seventh floor, tutting occasionally as the two younger adults bickered about the smallest of things.
"This is quite far from the potions class room, isn't it?" Draco looked at the beautifully decorated floor with plush red carpets and silver linings. Valerie spun around, her arms above her head, taking in all of her new surroundings.
"Wow!" She breathed, "I never knew it was THIS nice up here." She span around a few more times before losing her normally quite steady Balkans and landed with a thump on top of Draco, who, by the force of her fall fell to the ground with her lying over his stomach.
"Ugh," he groaned as he tried to pick himself up, "what where you doing?" Draco asked as he held out a hand for her to take to get up.
"Spinning" a giggle escaped from her lips soon after, "sorry" was added after she saw his unamused expression.
"Good."
"Right, well then my dears, let's go in." There was only one thing stopping them from going in, a portrait, but not just any old portrait: it was Snape.
"So, here are what you call eligible potion masters?" He looked unimpressed with Minerva's choice on who should teach the subject..
"Draco Malfoy, I never thought I would see you again, oh, and who else, only our little Valerie Rose." Sarcasm dripped out of his mouth, though Professor McGonagall was having non of this.
"Severus, be nice, I'm warning you, if not you can go and replace the fat lady at the Gryffindor common room."
His face turned sour, he'd rather live in the forbidden forest before letting in a bunch of Gryffindor students every day. "The password is 'Acromantula' don't forget it!" He hissed before opening the hole for them to go through.
"Sometimes I do wish that we had the fat lady up here instead of him, but Filtwick didn't want any of the students to be upset by his childish attitude."
Draco mumbled in agreement whilst Valerie spun around again,.
"Will you stop that!" He grabbed ahold of her arm to stop her going in circles. "Stop acting like such a child! I really don't want you hurt yourself."
"Fine." She turned to Minerva, "could you show me to my room?"
The two ladies walked down the hallway to Valerie's room as Draco stood there, his head in a daze.
