When I ran back to the tower, I started crying for the first time in almost ten years. The burning tears were falling again. But thankfully it only lasted for a few minutes. There was one time I lit a fire in his room and it had created a reflective glass surface. And when I looked into it for the first time, I saw the braid.
When I saw it, I knew it was a sign of forgiveness for the wedding incident. He didn't hate me. It was his way of telling me goodbye. But I had wished he woke me up and I could have run away with him. As much as I wanted to do that, I couldn't abandon my siblings since they were still children. But now that they're grown, I was pondering to myself if I could leave the Encanto and search for mi amor.
But I knew that would be a hopeless endeavor and would only leave me in danger of what was outside the Encanto. The only thing I can do was to preserve my memory of Bruno and of what we had and never forget it for as long as I lived.
Once I made that promise to myself, I had noticed the sand started to shift like there was a a small wind. And then when I looked to his door. It was glowing shining actually. I had never seen his door glow for almost ten years. I walked up to it and placed my hand on the mural of his face. "Brunito." I whispered. Wherever he was, I had a feeling this vision he was having, was going to be a good one.
Said door was busted open by Alejandro who had the biggest smile on his face. Before I was about to scream about the lesson of knocking, despite being almost thirty, he still hadn't learned, he held my shoulders tightly. "REINA! He's not dead! Bruno is still alive!" I smacked him across the head. "I never thought he was dead you little rat!"
Even though I had hit him, he was still smiling widely. "But what I'm saying is he never left the Encanto! He never even left the Casita! He's here Reina! He's always been here! He has been in the walls for these last ten years! I didn't want to tell you because I thought you were scared but now I know you're ready to see him again."
My eyes widened in shock. There was a spark and glowing ember in my eyes. If what Alejandro is saying was true, that would turn into a wildfire for me. "Where is he?" I asked with intensity. "He's with Mirabel in Antonio's room!"
I felt as I was moving in slow motion as I pushed Alejandro away and started to make my way towards Antonio's room. I opened his door and there I saw a glowing green sand dune. At first, I had not been able to entirely comprehend it. I recognized the green ruana the second I saw it of course. As the rest of the sand cleared, I saw the black curls I used to play with and the slight frame that I had always held onto. His green eyes met mine as they widened in shock. "Reina." He whispered, I couldn't hold it in anymore. "BRUNO!" I screamed as loud as I possibly could.
He started to run toward me and I towrad him. And finally after ten years, ten long, painful, depressing, heartbreaking, tragic years we finally embraced. We finally broke down crying tears of happiness. After what it seemed like hours we finally calmed down and Bruno looked toward his niece. "Go to your sister. You are exactly what she needs right now." I turned to her as well. "And tell her that Mariana loves her as much as she does." Mira may not have understood the meaning of what I just said, but she went off to confront her oldest sister.
"Now we're alone." He said. "Finally." I immediately kissed him hard. He fought back with as much intensity and passion he had. I held him so tightly he even told me he was running out of breath. At that point I just held and caressed his face. Despite being fifty, he was still the most beautiful man in the Encanto.
"I missed you like hell." I said. He looked at me with a smile, stood up and held out his hand"May I have this dance mi amore?" I chuckled at him and smiled. "Si Papi."
He blushed at that but still swept me off my feet as usual, and we started to dance around Antonio's jungle-like room with his little animal friends as our audience. "So did I." He answered me. "As much as I wanted to wake you up I was just too afraid." I looked into his eyes with sadness. "And I was too afraid to find you."
"I'm so sorry I caused you so much pain." I had started to take the lead in the dance. "You don't have to apologize for anything." I whispered then out of nowhere as he was picking me up and spinning me I started to laugh. "What's so funny?" I sighed. "The wedding incident. I was calling Peppa a basket case when I'm just the same."
"You can be a basket case at times. But you know what?" I gasped at his comment before he dipped me and I yelped in Surprise. "You are my basket case. I wouldn't have it any other way." He held me up and I couldn't help but steal his lips once more. He held me tightly as he kissed back. God I had missed this so much. I had thought this would never happen again and here I am in this moment with mi amor. I finally realized that my nightmares were never going to come true.
That's when the ground beneath us began to shake violently. "What the hell is going on!?" I asked.
"The Casita. It's breaking! We have to get out of here!" Thinking quickly, I had started a fire on the already disintegrating wall of Antonio's room and we had jumped out.
And we escaped just in time to see the destruction of the Casita. It was an awful sight. That beautiful home, now in debris and ruin. The magic was gone. We were hidden behind a tree so the family could not see us but we heard everyone call out Mirabel's name.
"Mama's going to blame it all on her I just know it." My eyes widened knowing that was the truth. "No. We can't let that happen! We have to find her first." Before we had even moved Alejandro came up behind us and hugging me tightly.
"Reina! I'm so glad you're safe. It's really nice seeing you again Bruno." I sighed at his sweetness then took Alejandro by the shoulders. "Alejandro where is Mirabel?"
"She's past the mountains at the river." I smiled at him and kissed his forehead. "Thank you little brother." Once we were out of the palm trees, we had managed to pick up a horse which enabled us to quickly ride towards the running waters. I just hope we make it before someone else finds her.
