It had been three days since Kane and Scarlett's conversation and Kane has not seen her since. He didn't want to ask, why he didn't know. He refuses to call it a 'fear' of the scaled girl. But he will admit that something strange is going on. If a woman with scales living in a giant mansion with a staff and pet wolf wasn't a big enough hint.

Currently, Kane was washing dishes. This job was usually done by Martha, but she has rarely been seen. While Kane worked he hummed to a little tune that his mother would hum when she worked when he was a child. Suddenly he heard another person pet out a sigh. He whipped his head around and saw the master leaning against the door, a soft smile on her face.

After the astonishment of seeing a smile on her face without May-Belle around her, he asked, "Um, can I help you?"

She blinked a few times. "sorry," she muttered before going over to one of the large cabinets.

"You like music?" Kane asked. The awkward tension bugged him too much.

"My mother used to always sing to me." she said softly.

"Oh." Kane said. Well this is awkward...again. There was a crash from where Scarlett was digging in the cabinets. "What are you looking for?"

"Deadly nightshade." She said flatly.

"That sounds safe." Kane muttered.

"Deadly nightshade is used for many different things."

"Still sounds dangerous."

"Aha!" Scarlett exclaimed. Kane looked at her from the corner of his eye and saw a jar in her hands. In the jar was a strange plant with roots that look like a human body. "Found the mandrake!"

"Mandrake? Isn't that from Harry Potter or something?" Kane asked. He walked closer and when he was about two feet away stopped and starred at the strange plant.

"Yes."

"What else from that movie was real? You have tea with Voldemort too?" Kane asked, only the second part being a joke.

Scarlett laughed. "Nope. But mandrakes are an actual plant as you can see. I need to regrow my garden, been running low."

"Oh. So what do you need the mandrake and deadly nightshade for anyway?" Kane asked, returning to the dishes.

"Mandrakes to regrow my garden and the deadly nightshade to help with my-" She was cut off by Joseph entering the kitchen. He looked like he hadn't slept at all last night. His hair was disheveled and there were dark circles under his eyes.

He yawned loudly. "Hey."

Scarlett's smile fell as she looked at her friend. She stood up and placed her hand on his cheek. "I see you are still worried."

"No, I'm perfectly fine." He said sarcastically. He pulled out an apple and bit into.

"I said I'll take care of it." Scarlett said.

Kane took it that he was forgotten. He continued the dishes, watching and listening to the conversation with a million questions running through his mind. What are they talking about? Why is Joseph so worried? Who is he worried about?

"Then why don't you take care of it? Maybe then I wouldn't be on my death bed."  He growled.

Kane noticed Scarlett grow stiff and her few bits of skin pale. No one spoke for a moment so Kane, being the idiot he his, spoke. "How are you dying?"

Joseph turned to face him. "Imagine having the one meant for you and only you in the hands of the enemy." He stated coldly.

"She's not with them yet." Scarlett said.
