"Hello?"I'm laying in the bed of my truck at the Point, which is a cliff where I go to just breath or think, the sky looks amazing up here, when I get a call from my friend Sarah.
"Girl, I need some serious retail therapy! Where are you?"
"I'm off the 1-80 exit."
"What the hell are you doing all the way out there? You know what- never mind it doesn't matter. What matters is I just found out that Justin kissed some skank at Mullens party last night! Can you believe that?!!! I mean.."
She keeps talking but I'm not really listening. We've been friends for about a year now, it's mainly one sided. She really enjoys talking about herself. I contemplate just hanging up and later telling her it was bad reception. I probably shouldn't, she's never truly been rude or anything. I'm just not in the mood.
"Hey Sarah," I interrupt her mid-rant, "do you think I could call you back later, I'm a tad busy right now?"
"Omg totally! I think Taylor is free today, I'll see if she can go! Love ya! Ttyl!" A kissing sound comes through then the line goes dead.
I press the power button and lay my phone at my side. Why is she doing this to me? Are me and Danny not enough for her? A million thoughts run through my head.
The sun starts to set when I become a little cold. I jump up and grab the spare comforter from my backseat. I keep bedding in here for when I come to the Point. Laying back down, now with my blanket, I draw out the constellations with my pinky. My dad and I used to come here when I was a kid, and we would draw all the constellations we knew only with our pinkies. He always said it was because he wanted to give his pinky a chance to feel special, all the other fingers had a purpose, except the pinky. He was a very funny man. Always knew how to make me laugh. I could never stay mad at him.
I pull out my phone again and scroll through my contacts.
I press call. It rings 6 times then his voicemail come through.
"Hello, this is Daniel Barlow. If you're hearing this it probably means I'm at work or with my family. I'll call you back as soon as possible. Bye."
I hang up before it prompts me to leave a message. I call two more times after that, only to hear his voice. Then I pull up messages, and write to him.
